Slow wifi

We received a new wifi modem after the last one stopped working and the new one is pretty much unusable due to the slow speed, we are continually kicking off sites due to connectivity which is down to the slow speeds, even my on my phone it won’t even load a site saying try again later, turn off wifi and use mobile data and no problems. What’s the point in paying for something you can’t use, surly there is a minimum speed wifi should work at....Ridiculous
