Okay, my issue has now been resolved.
I factory reset my Sagecom router.
After it reboot i did not change any settings.
I went to the IPAD and found that i am no longer prompted for a username and password to connect to wifi.
I logged back into the router (using optus/optus for anyone who has no idea what the admin username/password is).
I updated the SSID and Key and was still able to successfully connect to wifi.
So it seems a simple factory reset is required and not to assume that the router out of the box is actually okay for use.

Thanks for the tip, I guess for me, due to the connection /wifi issues, I've done the hard reset my modem a few times.
