Bluetooth warning message on Optus Sport app with iOS13

Apple’s new iOS 13 update has added a new privacy measure that requires different apps to get user consent in order to use the device’s Bluetooth. When customers open the Optus Sport app after installing ios 13 for the very first time, they will receive the following overlay message:

Why does Optus Sport need Bluetooth?

Optus Sport supports Google’s Chromecast streaming platform and uses Bluetooth to find nearby Chromecasts for “guest mode”

Chromecast mainly streams content over Wi-Fi on the same network. However, the platform also has a guest mode that lets customers cast Optus Sport on devices on other networks without having to know the network password.

Optus Sport uses Bluetooth to scan nearby Cast devices for guest mode.

On the next build, the default warning message will be replaced with another message that gives users more clarity on why Optus Sport needs access to Bluetooth.
