Not 100% sure but it could be besause of the design of the STB and the way content is delivered. Your free-to-air programs (which you can record) are delivered via your TV aerial, the Entertainment package is delivered via your broadband connection. Maybe the recording fuction is only linked to the tuners in the STB and not the ethernet connection.

Optus differentiates itself from other FetchTV providers - like iiNet and Internode - by delivering the service from its own CDN (content distribution network using) infrastructure and adaptive streaming technology, rather than FetchTV’s IP multicast streaming infrastructure.
Unles Optus start using NBN and swich to Multicast rather then Unicast we are not able to record linear streaming chanels. The other issue with unicast is if the throughput is bad they drop the quality (there are 4 quality levels) until the throughput increases.
