I’ve just fixed it thanks to Apple support. It turns out that the subscriptions tab appears only if you have live subscriptions. If, for example, your son has logged into your iPad and so the subscription is on his ID and not yours then you won’t see it!

Just to confirm the subscription was raised in your son's Apple ID.
