Hi Fralil,
I am also curious if your device is rooted?
Robert
As am I @robmGC.
@liverpoolmelb
A media player (i got it to actually use it for using Optus Sport on).
That's an Android media player? What's the make and model of the device? I don't have much experience with these devices.
I presume it's like an Apple TV whereby you're able to download licensed streaming applications?
If the device isn't listed as supported then it's not going to work. The 'device is rooted' error prompt might be a generic prompt. I'd expect something more along the lines of 'this device isn't currently supported.'
Given that we'll be holding rights until 2022, I'm sure we'll be looking to increase the number of devices we support.

I've replied back to thread → https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Resolve-Issues/Rooted-Device-on-Media-TV-Box/m-p/420043#M2791.
You're welcome to chat with us there 🙂
What have you replied?
The device is listed as 'supported'.
'Rooted' means that the user has installed their own firmware on to the phone. You can 'root' any device.
As it stands it seems Optus haven't covered this eventuality in their marketing or contract but some tech boffin has been able to detect a 'root' and prevent Optus streaming to these phones.
At this point Optus should either allow these customers access to the content they have purchaced or acknowledge Optus is in breach of contract and offer a full refund.

Hi petergdownload,
my understanding is the root mans that someone has root access on a device. i.e. they have access to all system partitions and files on the device. I can understand that Optus doesn't want people to do this as it allows them to modify the operating system (OS) in which the Optus Sports app is running. Changing the OS would allow intercepting the video streams for example.

Hi M34N,
is your Android box rooted?
Thanks, Robert
No, it's not rooted. It's a generic Android TV Box. Was working just fine until the last OPTUS Sport opgrade, then BAM, app tells me I have a rooted device. VERY poor show on OPTUS part say that I can watch on numerous devices then removing the ability to watch on my TV Box.
Hi Peter
"Given the idea is to stop people recording and presumably sharing content I think its unikely they'll relax the protection. Espicially as unrooting the device returns functionality."
Why would someone want to record and restream a service that rarely runs at 720p.
OPTUS have dropped the ball with this one.
