I am an existing optus customer. I just bought a refurbished galaxy s4. I have put in the sim card from my old phone and cranked up the S4, but no service is indicated. When I try to connect to a network through settings the phone searches for a network but never gets any further. I live in regional Tasmania. My last phone was a chinese homtom which worked great in my area. I am getting frustrated.
What's the exact model number under the battery?
Is there a chance you have bought one that only does 850Mhz 3G? There is a chance that it's a Telstra phone, and they selfishly chose a model that didn't have Optus 900 on it.
There is a little Expand/Collapse on the network bands on gsmarena.
I would tend to buy an S5 G900i, because it has band 28
