Zero 4G Network Coverage

I made the mistake of buying Optus SIM Only plan and ath the store I was told at my address I will be getting full network. When I used the SIM today, I am only getting 3G network. Now when I called the customer care, the agent told me I am connected to east Carnegie tower which only supports 3G network and I would have to wauit for 4G upgarde (don't know when). What the hell!!! I didn't buy the plan for getting 3G network. Another executive told me you will be get 4G network but not very strong. What does that mean, I am getting 1 Mbps speed for internet and sometimes even not that because thae connection is so poor, speedtest site didn't work.

Re: Zero 4G Network Coverage

So a few things.

What device do you have - not all devices support the 4g bands from Optus.

Have you checked the network status page?

https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/network/coverage?

There are no 3g only towers in your area (this info is available to the public on sites like govs acma website)

Optus 4g towers around your suburb

1068-1070 Dandenong Road Carnegie VIC 3163

2 Railway Parade Murrumbeena VIC 3163

1227 Glenhuntly Rd (corner Grange Rd) Glenhuntly VIC 3163

There are a heap more.

Re: Zero 4G Network Coverage

If that was the case why I was told at your Optus store in Chadstone, that I will get full network without any problem. I was shown on a laptop that coverage around my house is full and I will get good speed. I am using a Redmi Note 3. And what I am supposed to do now. Can you provide a solution how can I get ample speed for internet.

Re: Zero 4G Network Coverage

Hi

Maybe the simple solution but have you checked the preferred network type in your SIM and network settings?

Re: Zero 4G Network Coverage

So one issue is unless you have a special edition Redmi Note 3 from Taiwan you woukd have the "global" version and that misses one of the main 4g bands - band 28 700Mhz.

Redmi Note 3 Global:

LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500) - Global

700Mhz is critical for in building coverage.
