A few things you can try.
Reboot your phone, turn it off and if you can remove the battery do that. Then turn it back on again.
Take the SIM card out and clean it gently with a soft cloth.
Put the SIM card in a friend's phone. If they are not on the Optus network check to see if the phone is unlocked. If you can make calls from that phone it show a problem with your phone, if not you may need a replacement SIM card.
