One of the possible causes to the issue you had described is that your device may be trying to automatically connect to WiFi connections in the area which you had previously connected to before.
It may be worth going through the list of saved WiFi connections on your device and removing those that you no longer connecting to.
Another step you can take to prevent your device from automatically connecting to WiFi connections is to turn off WiFi when you are expecting to use 4G to connect to the internet.
