Unable to connect using FTP

I am webmaster for a non-profit agency and FTP into the website to update  it.  I now get the error 'unable to connect'.  I talked to the tech support at my webhost (which is Netrgistry), and they said it appears that Optus has blocked the connection.  Before contacting you, I tried releasing and renewing my ip, and refreshing my dns.

The hostname I try to connect to via FTP is cp250.ezyreg.com

What can I do to unblock this so I can work on the website?

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

I don't know who to talk with.

1. I was able to FTP into the site from another computer that is not on the Optus network.

2. I was able to FTP into the site from a web based location called net2ftp

3. The tech support for the webhost said that they only have trouble with customers who are on Optus....that they do not get such unable to connect to server issues from people on other internet providers.

If Optus is blocking my connection  to my webhost, I need to either get Optus to remove the block, or I may need to consider switching to a different provider.

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

Hey @AdamLink, get this is super frustrating 😞

You'll need to give our Faults crew a buzz on 13 13 44 (if you haven't already) so we can run a few tests and get it raised with our Network crew.

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

"Optus
ftp cp250.ezyreg.com
Unknown host cp250.ezyreg.com."

That is simply telling you that it couldnt resolve the name.

Try the ftp attempt using the ip address resolved as below:

Name: cp250.ezyreg.com
Address: 27.121.66.50

If that works, its not a routing issue but a DNS resolver problem.  What nameserver is configured?

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

I called that number.  The person ran some tests and told me that the problem was with the FTP site host.  The FTP site host said the problem was with Optus, that they only have complaints from Optus users.

I went into to my computer's Wi-Fi properties/Internet Protocol v4 (TCP/IPv4) settings, entered manual DNS addresses instead of automatic, and the FTP connected perfectly thereafter.

One can only conclude there is a problem with the Optus DNS

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

Thanks but I resolved it another way.

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

Its not only Optus nameservers, but also Telstra.

Something is a miss with the ezyreg domain name.

Would be discussing that with Planetdomain.

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

Except that I have been able to connect by FTP, without any problem, from a PC on Telstra for several years.  I only started having the problem on Optus.

Re: Unable to connect using FTP

Did anyone ever get their access back. I have some files on my ftp site I want to get access to and this is really frustrating to say the least. One of my accounts works perfectly, the other gets an invalid password error, even though the password is correct. This onyl started happening sometime after mid December 2017.
