Just connected to nbn and keeping land line, my dial tone is now a stutter I have had voicemail disconnected as I do not use. Can anyone suggest how to get normal dial tone back please

I believe the dial tone is set buy the technology used. You won't be able to change it.
I agree its a pretty annoying sound compared to a soothing dial tone and I'm not sure why they decided on it.

Sounds like the tone a you have a message left in your voicemail box. Try dialling *96 to see if there is a message left. Otherwise online chat and ask them to clear your messages.

Ah. I'll try that myself as I recently got that annoying sound too. Thanks @Davelew
