Since 8pm last night, speeds measure between 0.2 Mbit/s to almost normal (50 Mbits/s), pretty random
Mostly around 5 Mbits/s download. Upload is very slow too
Ping latency is always around 350 ms, normal is around 20 ms
Same issue with neighbours but this doesn't show on fault outage map.
Optus has no idea that this is happening, in fact they seem to not be able to diagnose this issue remotely, their first line support can only do a line test (which is perfectly fine)
Of course a lot of references to "NBN problems" which this is not, as NBN part is working fine.
Solved! Solved: Go to Solution.
Hey @RedVortex, that's certainly not great to hear. We would be more than happy to look into your network status and provide you with an update. If you could please send your broadband username as well as full address to our 24/7 Messenger teams over on the Optus App, we will look into it and get back to you with some more information.
Did we answer your question? Please mark it as a Accepted Solution and if you see something that was helpful to you or the rest of the community, giving a Kudos is only a click away.
You may know that what you call "tech" is a reversed powered DPU which serves currently 4 premises (and newer models will probably service much more than that). It is not unreasonable for this to be shown as an outage for the area. Certainly withing resolution of maps. Anything outside individual premises should be shown as local outage. Done in other countries, not that hard.
The purpose of the post was not to talk about statistically unreliable sample sizes but to see if any users had similar experiences because there was a rise in faults on Optus network(s) and I wouldn't rule out a wider problem which is not obvious to most because users that mainly stream wouldn't notice anything dramatic as download speeds are still reasonable (but do not meet NBN service obligations).
In my case, the telling signs are (using standard broadband speed test), since 16/02/2021 around 8 pm.
Download speed vary all the way up to normal (50 Mbits/s) but can be as low as 5 Mbits/s. No obvious correlation with time of day.
Upload speed non-existent (0.1 Mbit/s) - normal should be in excess of 10 Mbit/s on NBN FTTC
Ping latency 340 ms on average (normal 20ms or therebouts)
Anyone on FTTC experiencing this in the last few days?
And here we go, at midnight tonight network is back to normal, this rules out a local issue unless you believe in NBN techs doing secret site visits at night
Ping is back to 13 ms now
