Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

Looks like its going via UK (80.81.69.149)

The SEA-ME-WE3 cable was once again cut early December so looks like alternate routing is being used to get to Japan.

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

I was told there was a routing issue within flagtel which is affecting my connection.
Routing issue starts after hop 9 or the handoff between 6-10. After that traffic goes from AUS > LAX > someother place > Tokyo.

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

Flagtel is based in Ireland from what I understand so its not going US at all.

AUS -> UK -> JAPAN

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

why was it cut? I believe other internet providers across Australia don't get the same latency i do.

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

Most likely have to ask the ship that dropped its anchor on it etc?

Different isps have different international carrier links and agreements so you will normally get different  routing on each provider.

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

Optus is having such bad luck, with its submarine cable breaking due to w/e reason.

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

The cable is owned by a consortium of 92 companies (its not just Optus who uses this cable)

I think the cable has been fixed now.

Re: Trace route to Japan broken?

Hmm, I don't have information directly from the source or our Network team however I've done a bit of research on the topic and I've found the following.

"Asia-Middle East-Western Europe (SEA-ME-WE 3) submarine cable troubles are expected to be fixed between December 21-26, 2017 instead of December 10 as planned, according to a representative from the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT)."

It looks like a fix is coming within the next few days.
