NBN speed v Cable

Planning to move to Optus NBN from Telstra cable.

I get good download speed currently so not prepared to pay for a Speed Pack  (Iwill save money each month)

What will mty speed be like with Optus NBN?

Will it be equivalent to cable or will Optus limit it because I havent bought the speed pack?

Re: NBN speed v Cable

Nbn will limit it as the standard Optus speed is NBN50. If you dont pay for NBN100 then you stay at NBN50.

Telstra cable speed is not nbn speed.

Re: NBN speed v Cable

Thanks Paddy

We are only a three person household and rarely multiple users.  Maybe my son watching Netflisx while I'm working from home.

Will we notice a difference between NBN 50 and previous cable service?

Even with netflix streaming at 4k thats around hiddenMbit at most.
Depends in what your situation is with working from home, I opted for NBN100 plan speed (3 adults + 2 teenagers and I work from home with large files).

All comes down to requirements and finances.

Re: NBN speed v Cable

Thanks again

hiddenMbit?

I have my large Excel files stored locally. We are certainly not as heavy users as yourselves.

I liked the idea of paying less per month but would be disappointed to have to pay extra to get the same (we had Telstra speed boost)

Hopefully we won't notice the difference.

Re: NBN speed v Cable

While on Telstra cable you paid telstra who didnt have to pay anyone else to use the cable network.

While on NBN, you pay your telco who then has to pay nbn (and the profit is tiny)

That's just the yescrowd auto filter hiding numbers because it thinks it is personal information.

You can always just start off with the standard 50/20 plan and only upgrade if you feel the need to.  Speeds are not locked into the contract, so you can change those at any time.

Hopefully we won't notice the difference.

Based on what you have described I'd imagine it if there was a difference it would be minimal.
