Instead of using the provided Netgear EVG2000 (originally first manufactured in 2009?) or the Sagemcom F@ST 3864, would I be able to use my Netgear CG3000V2 Cable Modem/Router. I bought the CG3000V2 (max download speed of 100Mbps) from Optus this year to replace my old Motorola SB41XX which was limited to 20Mbps.
The CG3000V2 has an additional WAN port on the back with a sticker covering it "Reserved for Fibre Internet". Also, it has two phone ports (Phone 1 & Phone 2) which should already (as it's an Optus modem) be configured correctly to use with the NBN phone.
I love this router as it allows me to have two XBOXes’ connected at the same time with both having an OPEN NAT.

When Optus set me up for Cable they advised that I would not need to replace any hardware what so ever to connect to the NBN. In saying this, the technician also told me that you can plug directly into the WAN port (Which is the reserved port for Fibre) and you should be good to go.

Thanks for your answer, I was hoping that would be the case. The only worry I have now is that they will run a line from my cable modem to the phone upstairs. I have had the phone and Internet on two separate lines now for many years.
As such, I have always had a phone even when the power went out.
Unfortunately, that will not be the case when I am required to switch to NBN. I guess that's progress for you.

To be honest, not a lot of info for people who already have the NBN as they only reference getting it an install. It's at aleast a start if you want to ask the question though

Rang the number you provided (1300 300 427 – Optus NBN) the Optus Tech informed me that the provided “WHITE” Netgear CG3000V2 Cable Modem/Router should have no problems connecting to the NBN network. Unfortunately, mine is a “BLACK’ one and MAY NOT be able to connect so easily. Strange since I only purchased it from Optus on the 12th of February this year and it was foreseeable that I would eventually be going over to NBN in the very near future.
However, regardless of the colour, both modems MAY NOT be able to successfully connect to the telephone service. Again strange, since, as far as I am aware, they connect to the current cable system with no problems.
Nevertheless, I have marked the questions I posed as solved as I won’t really know until the installation is attempted. Again, we will see.....
