Companies genrally provide support for their equipment. If you want to plug in additional equipment then you need to research that yourself.
What are you using the BYO modem for? Wifi? Wired router. Generally look to shut down the BYO modem as connected to the internet. Turn off any DHCP server function. Perhaps look at putting it into Bridge mode.
