Hi YesCrowd Folks, can anyone assist with how to set up my Optus NBN service with the Asus AC68U modem? I joined Optus a couple of months ago & so far I am deeply regretting it. The service has been terrible from Day-1, not because of any issues with node to home connection (I am getting consistently high download/upload speeds when performing tests), but the Sagemcom FAST modems supplied by Optus are just plain crap. I have 5 people in my home using devices over wi-fi at any given time of day, & with my previous service provider we had no issues. However, there is not a single day now when I am not having to reset the modem at some point because one or more devices are experiencing a freeze. Whether it's web pages freezing & timing out because of taking too long to load, or watching Netflix & then getting a pop-up message to advise the connection is too slow to handle the demand & asking me to set a lower resolution, the fact is the modem is just not up to the task. I'm at the point where I either get my Asus AC68U up & running to handle our network demands - or terminate my Optus service.

I have FTTC and phone plan so I have to use the Optus Sagemcom crap box for phone but I need to use my existing D-Link Router for WiFi same reason as you Optus Router have no usefull WiFi.
I have been asking for help and support on how to configure the 2 Routers so that Sagemcom is for phone only and my D-Link for every thing else since September and still non the wiser.

Well I decided to bite the bullet & get an independent I.T. specialist out to my home to sort it out, once & for all. In discussion with him over the phone he basically confirmed what you said: crappy Optus modem to provide inbound connection to home + better quality modem to act as router & boost wi-fi signal strength to actually make it usable. Fingers crossed...

I will have to do the same once I get my cables laid.
I have an old Telstra phone line that was used by my in-laws in a Granny Flat, but had been cancelled some years ago, I made specific inquiries with Optus Support asking which phone line to extend to new wall socked, Optus told me 100% Optus phone line, well that was all BS, I had a NBN Technician come out that informed me that NBN will never use the Optus line if there is a Telstra line available active or not, so I have to get cables put down again starting at the entry point on the front of the house.

Peter, get over yourself, mate. I read your reply - which I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to do. Nevertheless I have a life - as I'm sure you do too - & in between posting the question, travelling overseas for my job for a few days, dealing with a family emergency & just getting on with aforementioned life in general, I decided to simply cut to the chase & pay a professional to come to my home & get it done right. Time is money & I've got more important things to do with my time than sit on my computer all day long, just waiting for anyone to post so that I can instantly reply to it.

My post was nothing to do with me. I just happen to have three AC68U units set up at my place and was happy to share the setup details. Just suggesting that if you checked back 24 hours later and answered a simple question you might have saved yourself both time and (quite a lot) of money.

Fair enough, Peter. Notwithstanding that my reply may have sounded blunt, I genuinely do appreciate these kinds of forums - & people like yourself - for taking the time to help others out. Thank you. FYI (not that it's important in any way), but I work as a pilot - which means every day I go to work I'm out of the country for the next few days & uncontactable for extended periods - thus I don't spend every waking hour of my day online in front of a screen. That, plus other stuff going on at home, is why I didn't get around to looking at this thread until late yesterday. I trust you won't take it personally.
