Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

Hi

I’m a new Optus customer and when I signed up for my new plan I also got a mobile broadband sim for use in my car

I can’t get it to work.

I took the car to the dealer and they advised that Optus sims don’t work!

I have a Range Rover but apparently the problem is not limited to just this brand. I can confirm there is nothing wrong with the car as Telstra and amaysim sims work fine.

Has anyone come across this and found a resolution?

I would really prefer to use a post paid Optus sim that shares data with my phone rather than a prepaid sim from another carrier

Cheers

Shane

Re: Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

Sounds like the cellular device built into the car does nto support Optus (odd, this would only be limited for 3g)
Perhaps its locked to Telstra just like some phones are?

Looking at: https://www.landrover.com.au/ownership/incontrol/support/faq/incontrol-connect-faqs.html

Its 3g only (depending on model) - so in 4 years time you will have no 3g on Telstra anyway as they are closign down 3g.

Re: Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

Hi

Thanks for the comments. No other replies yet

When I use my amaysim or Telstra sims. They bother display the “4g” symbol

The service tech said he thought it was something to do with the car requiring a “data only” sim and Optus sims being different in some way?

But the Optus sim I am using is definitely a data only sim

Re: Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

Its not the network then as Amaysim uses the Optus Network.

You didnt buy the 200/500Gb Wireless Broadband by chance?

No. Optus call them mobile broadband on the list of services in the app

Re: Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

So will be either $15, $25 or $50 plan then.

(Wireless broadband plans are locked to specific devices, hence why I asked).

As it works on Amaysim, their is zero reason why an Optus Mobile Broadband service would not work.
I think the only thing that may caus an issue is something called an APN.

In this case manually seltting the apn to: connect

Re: Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

Yes the $15 plan cause I have heaps of data on my phone plan

Thanks for the link.

I “think” I have tried manually setting the apn. But I will give that another go

Yes, I have the same issue. I installed a spare TravelSim card (which is Telstra driven) and it works fine.

Re: Mobile data sim doesn’t work in car

Is this sorted?

I have the same issue with Optus SIM Telstra and Aldi pre-paid works fine. It is definitely looks like the Optus SIM 😞
