im In the process of changing from virgin to Optus and I am curious if the transfer can be rejected or declined? I'm slightly concerned that after paying around $130/month for phone with Virgin for two years I'm going to be left without a service if something goes wrong and looking for another provider

You would need to please Chat with us to find out the status of your order.
Generally the service remains with the losing provider until the switch over to the gaining provider goes through successfully.
In the rare event something goes awry you can be set up with a temporary service.
