Sim not valid

Optus $30 prepaid sim. Had Japanese person staying who purchased this SIM. Worked prior to latest iPhone update. After update started receiving ‘SIM not valid’ message. Optus says it’s maybe not compatible since the update. Second Japanese person comes to stay and is receiving the same message. Also someone from Korea with the same message. Phone is not locked to another provider, went through all of the fixes as advised by Optus. Are Optus prepaid cards no longer compatible with international phones?

Re: Sim not valid

Good morning @Hihihihi, as long as the handset is unlocked, there really shouldn't be an issue.

The go-to suggestion is a Network reset:

Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General >Reset > Reset Network Settings.

If that fails, I'd suggest popping into your local Optus store. Ask them to perform a SIM replacement for you.

Let us know how it all goes, happy to help.

Re: Sim not valid

Tried the reset. I think it must be that it’s not compatible. 3 people with the same problem, all international phones

Re: Sim not valid

They're all iPhone handsets @Hihihihi?

Could you try backing up and then restoring the phones via iTunes? You can find instructions on Apple's support page. Other then that, I'm stumped.

Re: Sim not valid

Yes. All iPhone and only since the last update. They are not keen to give your money back either. Optus store couldn’t help. They said the phone was faulty. I think 3 phones with the same problem, all international, kind of implies Optus is at fault here

Re: Sim not valid

Hmm @Hihihihi, you've 100% confirmed that the iPhones aren't locked to a Japanese Network provider?

Where are you located? Do you have an Apple Store in the area?
