Re: SUSPICIOUS TXT MESSAGE

Thanks, any reason you created a new thread other then Oooops!

That message looks legit. It's not the first time people have reported receiving such messages with wrong prone numbers. I've never heard a confirmed reason for them either, only speculation that an Optus staffer entered the wrong number in the system.

Re: SCREENSHOT OF TXT MESSAGE

Thats the message you get when you either submit a new order or change something in your account e.g. add a name to your service etc.

Did someone on Yes Crowd answer your question?

Re: SCREENSHOT OF TXT MESSAGE

It can be one of three things.

1. A legitimate Optus SMS. Regrettably Optus continues the dodgy practice of sending anonymous text messages with embedded links and no personal information (e.g. "Hi Peter, this is to confirm..." to its customers). A Telco that should be much more aware and proactive in not educating its customers to respond to such potentially hazardous communications. Which brings us to

2. Its a hackers phishing SMS with links to a possibly fake website etc. NEVER click on any link in an email or SMS even if likely from a legitimate source. Always make your way to the site manually and look up things like OrderNo's etc. from there.

3. Worst case your number/account has already been hacked and someone has ordered some goods on your account. This does seem unlikely in this case. Usually the first you know of that is your phone goes dead because Optus have ported your number out to a hacker without telling you

Re: SCREENSHOT OF TXT MESSAGE

Thank You for your help. Yeah I never click on links, never have but have seen friends who unfortunately have done so. It can be devastating the damage a hacker can cause 😞
