The ALDI number was a brand new number given by them? It wasn't ported across from another carrier to ALDI mobile?
Have you tried performing the factory reset?
yes did the facrtory reset, although the options are not wipe data/factroy reset, only wipe data. Is the factory reset option blocked?

Still no luck. Any way of getting rid of the Optus branding or is that not likely to be the issue.
The Optus branding will remain as is. It's built into the firmware of the device. That shouldn’t be causing any issues.
