Optus advises that the number you dialled is disconnected

Before you ask me to try Optus support on the app, please note I've tried for 2 days in a row with no helpful advice. I am trying to call USPS that begins with 1800 and I keep getting the error "Optus advises that the number you dialled is disconnected". Does anyone have any advice on how I can get this solved? It's been really frustrating and support on the app has been of no help.

I would't have thought that USPS would have had a local Australian 1800 number ( did a quick search and could no find any). Are you maybe trying to call their US 1800 number?

Yeah they do - but also supply local Aus numbers too

https://www.ups.com/au/en/help-center/contact.page

Is a "Technical" support 1800 listed on that page too - is it that number?

@Cg1234  If you are trying to call the United States Postal Service with a 1800 number from outside the United States I don't believe that the United States Postal Service would have a 1800 Service outside the United States.

I am an Optus subscriber, just trying to help.

And are you trying to call an Australian 1800 number or a US 1800 number?

I believe it might be a US number. There is only one number when I google it and I cant seem to find any other australian number to call for USPS

Re: Optus advises that the number you dialled is disconnected

OK. So for US numbers you need to prefix the number with 0011 1 when calling from a fixed line or from a mobile, and with a mobile you can use +1 prefix instead.

So for 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777)

It would be 0011 1 1-800-275-8777

or +1 1-800-275-8777

Note that US freecall numbers are not free from Australia. You will be charged international call rates to call it.

Edit: Looks like for 1800 numbers the international you need to drop the 1 from the 1800 portion. So try this instead:

It would be 0011 1 800-275-8777

or +1 800-275-8777
