New phone & plan

Just wondering if I sign up for a new phone and plan, does it neeed to be paid for up front? If not how soon before I am billed ?

No normally nothing up front unless the plan specifically says there is. You will get a partial Pro rata bill fairly soon after starting your plan and the link below explains what this is all about.

Hi , i just contracted today for a iphone 11 pro max this afternoon 64 g. I was intending to buy 256 gb but was not available in store . Consultant asked how much storage u have on your current and i replied 32 so he said 64 gb should b ok with your usage. I decided to go with 64. Came home open the phone a nf now iam regretting and crying as i want 256 gb as 64 would b too less. How can optus help plz
