New phone activation with Optus delayed

I signed up for a new service instore and was told that it would be activated within 15 mins to 4 hours. Spoke to a customer service rep overseas and he said 24 hours, the website says up to 4 hours. Why does it take so long to activate when my old provider released my number at 1:38 this afternoon? I was worried about coming back to optus, and my fears are coming true.....

If still delayed please contact Optus directly so they can investigate.

We don't have visibility of or access to customer services and accounts here on our public forum so for any service related issues customers do need to contact Optus. If it's still not activated something is definitely up and needs to be looked into.
