My WiFi calling is not working

I have a galaxy note 10+ 4G which refuses to make calls over wi fi.

I am 200km NW of Port Augusta & internet etc is by satellite via skymesh.

The phone is set to wi fire calling & I have done the troubleshooting tutorial to no avail.

Any ideas & help will be appreciated .

Re: Wi Fi calling

Can you/have you been able to make calls over 4g e.g. VoLTE?
This is one of the requirements for wiFi Calling

Re: Wi Fi calling

Not on this phone nor in this area. I have on other samsung phones without a problem in areas more remote than here.

Others on the station are able to on iPhone and Samsung.

Re: Wi Fi calling

Was the phone from Optus or was it sourced from elsewhere?
Major factor is wifi calling needs VoLTE in order to do wifi to cell network handover if you move out of wifi range.

In order for VoLTE its currently phone firmware based, so very dependant on phone origin at this stage.

-Does not apply to iphones as they use a different system for network config.

Re: Wi Fi calling

The phone was sourced from Optus approximately 2 months ago.

Re: Wi Fi calling

Hi cashcow181,

It's not clear if you're able to get a 4G connection in general?

You may have better progress logging a fault online here.

Re: Wi Fi calling

I connect to the internet via wi fi through a satellite service provided by skymesh.

I doubt it is 4G but I don't know for sure.

I have previously had no problems with wi fi calling on a Samsung s8+ via a satellite service provided by activ8me.

All my phones have come from Optus.

The note 10+ showed VoLTE when I was in PORT AUGUSTA  last week but nada out here on the station.

Is it a satellite problem, a phone problem, an Optus problem or am I expecting too much

Re: Wi Fi calling

Very hard to determine the issue, you will get huge latency when talking due to the nature of satellite, perhaps that plays a part in it - I dont know.

From when I used a Note 8 I had to select it to use wifi calling with priority to wifi over cellular, perhaps thats a setting on your device?

Re: Wi Fi calling

Paddylee, I have never had a latency problem with calls over wi fi,  even when I was 300km West of Katherine.

I have both the settings you suggested active.

Maybe I need to align the phone with the stars 😉

Re: Wi Fi calling

Wifi may be locally low latency, but the link IF its via NBN skymuster has a minimum round trip of 500ms aka half a second which is noticeable in a voice call.
