15 different iterations in past few weeks- it is getting downright painful and i'm gunnna have to get a new number
just to have some peace.
Optus caused this by allowing people to sms their paying customers from numbers that aren't even showing as "private" we should be able to protect ourselves. I want messages from private numbers (friends who have given up on their own security)
but i can't see why optus allows this.
Which is incidentally an Optus old number. Optus should be able to track these people.
I tried going to the actual site using a private window in chrome and the casino wanted my number to "block it" i didn't give it as somebody is passing around legimate numbers. It should be against law.
Past of the sms specification is that you can supply sender details.
E. G anz bank send me messages from ANZ with no nunber.
Aus gov send from myGov etc.
Optus just pass these along as you are the recipient.
Very hard to block - would end up blocking banks, ATO etc by doing so.
If this company is external to Aus then the do not call register is no use.
Only thing you could do is following their opt out process (they already have your number).
the message shows, its a optus number that was disconnected and the opt out process doesnt work as ots an old optus number listed in the msg.
there has to be a way to trace these annoying sms's and hold these people accountable.
in future, dont respond with a response that is exactly the same as what i wrote opt out doesnt work!!!!!!!

phone number doesnt work. its an old optus number. optus should be able to trace old opt out numbers and hold these people accountable.
the specificarion helps these people. not customers.
They can put whatever number or words up to the character limit they want as the sender number - there is nothing Optus can do in this case as its part of the SMS specification.
So as you SAID opt out does not work - so I am not sure how else it can be fixed without a change of number.
Number portability rules mean an Australian Mobile number can be moved carrier to carrier - they are not locked to any carrier.

ads are being spammed to my phone with absolutely no other information besides a incorrect optout process i.e. phone was DISCONNECTED by optus.. (no one else)
.. so why cant optus see who it belongs to as it might help investigate why to opt out it forces you to goto a website that installs viruses and god know to your phone.
optus CAN stop forwarding messages that have no correct headers or footers.. i have never recieved a message from any government department that didnt have details.
only through optus and these scammers..
which incidentally started just after i signed up with optus ....
i hate hearing optus staff say therer is no solution .. there is always a solution besides goving up on a number ive had for 10 years. this spam started with optus!!!!
ive heard of staff selling new numbers to these casino sites to make dollars on the side.... maybe an internal investigation of the same complaints .
1) i didnt sign up to any casino. but i sure have noticed an increase in spammed ads since joining a year ago. went through my history and yep.. first one just after i signed up.
2) i had this number with telstra for years without issue
3) i get spammed sms without any ability to respond as the msg has no header and number they give is part of a text file.
4) as this is a digital footprint... and the number in text is part of optus history...
why cant optus track or stop ANY msg that is not authentic..
if msg.header is null then ignore
optus meets with government and suggest the change!
seems pretty logical.

We can only control what is outbound on your service/the billing side of things. That being said, we can see if this is premium SMS or content services, in which we can block from our end.
