Donate Your Data

With the launch of Donate Your Data, we’re now giving eligible Postpaid and Prepaid customers the opportunity to donate a portion of their monthly data allowance to young Australians in need.

As part of this program Optus provides a free Prepaid service which includes data and unlimited national talk and text to eligible participants via our charity partners. Your generous donations are then provided to these services to support young Australians in need.

To learn more about how your unused data will benefit young Australians in need, head to the Donate your Data FAQ page.

How does it all work?

Prepaid and Postpaid customers on selected rate plans are eligible to donate. You can donate your data multiple times per month via either the My Optus app (for Optus Postpaid customers) or via SMS (for Optus Prepaid customers). To find out how you can participate, see below.

Donated data will be distributed to young Australian’s in need identified by our charity partners, including The Smith Family.

Donate your Data participants

Eligible participants who’ve been identified through our charity partners will receive a free Prepaid SIM card. Participants can head here for more information about the program.

Re: Donate Your Data

This is a brilliant initiative, I easily have 40GB+ unused every month.

Just tried to make multiple donations but got the limited to once every 12 hours message *coughjustestingthatitworkedcough*.

Re: Donate Your Data

Great initiative, just donated 10GB this morning.

Would be good to have the option to opt-in for auto donations at the end of the month....

Re: Donate Your Data

A really good initiative from Optus. I have a large phone data plan which I only really use 6 months of the year when away in my caravan. Now I'll feel a lot better not wasting this data.

Re: Donate Your Data

Agreed! Only reason I came here is to suggest a data direct debit at the end of the bill cycle. Sometimes I use half my data, most of the time I only use 10-20%, and I would not be mad if my leftover 25gb at the end of the month were just donated, considering there's no rollover.

Heck, why even need to opt in, just do it automatically!

Re: Donate Your Data

I would like to set up an automatic data donation, but in a separate messaging contact with Optus I was told that they will not implement this and gave some waffly half answers as to why an auto donation won't be implemented. Optus should provide the following functionality:
1. Auto donate all excess data on last day of my bill cycle
2. Auto donate up to X GB of data on last day of bill cycle

I have paid for this data, but not used it. I should be able to EASILY donate it each month. I should not have to remember my billing cycle last day.

Donating data is a great initiative by Optus, but it is only partially implemented. Come on Optus. Don't be a good corporate citizen. Be a great one.
