Data use

We got wifi connected this afternoon and used u tube for an hour then I got a message saying we had gone over our data limit on our mobile which we had 2g left. How could we use our 2g if we had the wifi going?

Re: Data use

If you lose wifi connection, even for a moment, and you have mobile data turned on, then it probably connected to mobile data and did not automatically reconnect back to wifi when signal returned.

Whenever you want to use wifi I would recommend that you make sure that you manually turn off mobile data so that this does not happen again.

Re: Data use

YAA hyad probably got the reason. Is also possible you used the data yesterday but Optus took 24 hours to update your usage (usage updates can lag by 48 hours so don't rely on them exclusively). Especially as Optus provide no way to stop them selling you unlimited 1Gb top ups at extortionate process.

Do you have an Android? You can set warnings and limits locally on your phone that test every month. You might also look at you your phone's data history to confirm it used several GB of mobile data recently.
