Change prepaid epic value to epic data

Hi, just enquiring about my mum's prepaid. She currently has a epic value Sim & recharge of $15 & 500mb or $30 2GB data.
Is there a way she can change to a epic data prepaid but keep her current number? Like to recharge $30 for 10GB instead.
Appreciate any help. I understand it's not urgent, just thought someone might have any suggestions.
Thanks

Re: Change prepaid epic value to epic data

Hey @Newhere, thanks for reaching out to us. Your mother can change her prepaid mobile phone plan by following the instructions on this page 'How to Change Your Prepaid Mobile Phone Plan'.  Keep in mind that she will still keep the same number but she may lose her existing credit when changing rate plans. To avoid this, use up the credit before changing plans.

Re: Change prepaid epic value to epic data

Hi @Newhere,

In general you can 'port' your mobile number to any plan by any provider (a few don't accept a ported number but most do) A company can never refuse to port your number out though. So for example if you wanted to got a Amaysim plan then just tick the box when you sign up that you have an existing number and it will be transferred across.

For you mum's data use its generally MUCH cheaper to get a long term expiry deal. For example Optus sell a 100Gb prepaid plan that lasts a whole year and costs $150 (or $12.50 a month essentially)

The only catch with this is that Optus for some reason won't let existing customers keep their number. However this only means you need to jump through a few extra hoops fortunately.

1) Keep in mind that porting your number is a completely industry defined process and very standard. You can read about it here:

https://www.amaysim.com.au/help/mobile/getting-started/transfer-number-to-new-sim-card

2) Go to that Amaysim site and sign up for the $5 deal.

https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/mobile-plans/unlimited-xsmall

3) Return to Amaysim and do the activation process (enter in the number you are keeping). You'll get a confirmation code sent to your current Optus number (Confirm). Then switch in the new Amaysim SIM and it should activate in the next few hours.

4) You're now an Amaysim prepaid customer

5) Now go to the Optus site and order the Optus $150 SIM deal (tip: you can order both SIMs at the same time, just make sure you port out then back in in the correct order)

https://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/180-sim?

6) Optus will also send that out. Go to the Optus Activate page and activate your new SIM card. During the process you'll be asked if you want to use an existing number. Type in the number again (currently with AmaySIM)

7) Then its just the same process as above (get code, confirm, swap in new Optus SIM, wait 2 hours, done)

It seems a little involved but actually the steps are very straight forward in practice. A the end of it your Mum will have around 8Gb a month to use (on average) for only $12.50. Plus she can use 2Gb one month and 20Gb the next if she wants without any issues
