new emails on webmail

I'm having an issue with my Optus webmail.

for the last THREE months ALL NEW emails appear as READ - when they have NOT been read!

When I call tech support - 5 calls - they are unable to help! They say it is a network issue, which Optus is working on! 

THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! It is affecting my OUTLOOK mail too - all emails appear as READ. 

I am seriously considering cancelling our Optus internet account - I can use gmail, which works efficiently and has no issues.
