I have voicemail on my fixed line. I used to get a special 'stutter' dial tone whenever there was a new message. Since we moved to NBN that feature has disappeared. I tried 'chat' and all I go after a half hour of waiting was "that feature doesn't exist"! But it used to exist! Now the Fixed line help page gives some instructions about
"The notification setting 'Call Me' has been turned on. 'Call Me' is not compatible with Home Phone voicemail. To turn it off, go to the Main Menu (Option 8), then to the Notification menu (Option 7) and select 'SMS Me'.Sounds wrong, but this is the default setting for Home voicemail and ensures that you're notified when you have new voicemail."
Tried this and got to the 'option 7' only to be told "SMS Me is on" and there is no way to turn the notification to anything else and as it's a fixed line, SMS doesn't work! There is no option to enter a mobile for notifications.
All this has me frustrated as I have voicemail, but it's pretty useless if there is no notification for a fixed line that there is a message waiting! Do I just have to try it manually every so often? That's pretty stupid! Can anyone help?
Hey @dob1, I've been digging around and found this, which you've quoted above so we may need to take a look at things on our end. Can you send through a private message with the following details so we can take a look:
- Full name on account
- Phone/account number
- Are you the account holder: Y/N
Hey @dob1, I'll touch base to see if we've got an update on this one for you.
No it hasn't been 'solved'. They just dropped the ball completely on this one. I talked to a couple of techs months ago who were so new they didn't even understand what the 'stutter' was - a different dial tone that let you know there was a message. So if I want to check if there is a message I have to manually dial *96 every time I get home! I've put my message up now and mentioned that Optus has stuffed this system with the move to the NBN and any callers may as well call my mobile as I'm not going to get any notivication if they leave a message.
Hi @dob1, I'm familiar with the feature that you're referring to.
I'll have to go back through to some of our archived communication to confirm whether we'd removed the feature. I've also checked our internal knowledge base and we do have instructions for agents that explain how to setup the feature on a system-level. At the same, I'll reach out to a colleague within our NBN tech space. They should be able to point us in the right direction.
We'll update this thread as soon as we receive more info.
