Very slow adsl speeds

Hi i just got adsl 2+ a couple of weeks ago and with the speeds im getting are just horrible. I get around 1.5mb download when nobody else is on it and next to the router. It sometimes takes 20 seconds to load a internet page.

I left my pc on for the day to do a download and it said its peak point speed was at 200Kbs and did 4 gb in 12 hours.

Im not sure how far away i am from the exhange but the speed i get should atleast not be that bad. If somebody could help is there away to get faster internet. And i also my room is the furthest away.

Re: Very slow adsl speeds

First you have to determine if this is your wifi, by getting close to the router, or connecting via ethernet.

If it's still bad, you have to work out how far you are from the exchange, for realsies. 1.5mbs would be expected at 5km

Ask your neighour how bad his is.

Re: Very slow adsl speeds

Ethernet doesn't make a difference when plugged in and is there a way to find the closest exchange. Is there a way to get faster speeds

Re: Very slow adsl speeds

If there is variablility in it, where the speed lowers between 6pm and 11pm, then its local congestion. It's possible you could find some fibre HFC plan, if the NBN has not arrived.

Alternatively, you can try the 140GB mobile plan, or 100GB month to month with Netflix/Stan. (The top plan has this even though it's not mentioned.)
