If you search for Vision Australia they have a heap of things for blindness & low vision including big button phones for home.

Thanks for your reply. I have since been to Vision Australia and purchased a new landline phone. It should arrive next week. Just one other question would you know how to connect a landline that only has a port for the phone line to a stand-alone answering machine ?

Depending on the socket that is there - really old 3 pin weird looking one or the more up to date RJ12 style

Double adaptor, plug single end to wall socket, plug phone on one side, answerphone on other.

~$10-20 at palces like bunnings etc

These posts have been very helpful. Thank you. Just one other question..... where could I get a stand alone answering machine that can work with the new landline phone I am getting from vision Australia. I opted for the phone that did not have an intergrated answering machine because it was very expensive, but now I’m finding it difficult to find a stand alone answering machine 🤪

Unfortunately the days of a stand alone answering machine are numbered. Most telcos provide a hosted messagebank (Optus does) where you can call in to check your messages etc - no need for physical hardware. This page has info on how its setup and how it works. https://www.optus.com.au/shop/support/answer/set-up-voicemail-options-mobile-or-wireless?requestType...
