Optus Internet Huge Ping Spikes

I've had Optus ADSL2+ for 2 months and have been struggling much with it. Watching online streams (even at a low resolution) causes buffering and playing games online is just impossible.

I have a decent up/downstream considering how far away from the exchange I am, however, my ping spikes insanely at all hours through the day.

Here are some pings I made to 8.8.8.8:

Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=308ms TTL=58
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=343ms TTL=58

I'm not sure what to do. The Optus technical support are hopeless and don't really understand the issue if I have good internet speed.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue? Should I change to a better telco?
