I don't know about that specific modem, but my understanding is that most Mobile Broadband modems from Optus are unlocked.

However, they use firmware specific to the Optus network, so you might have trouble with other network SIMs even if it is unlocked.

I'd like to know if anyone can confirm if I can use my E5573 4G with European SIM cards as I am about to spend a few months over there. TIA

Hey @CD18, details on device unlocking can be located here. There may be a charge if you've had the modem for less than 12 months or recharged less than $100
