This is a public forum Ed, not a customer notification point. But there's no need to notify Optus. Optus will automatically activate the Direct Debit when your next bill is due. There's no harm in waiting on that as they'll grab all outstanding amounts (including the $15 late payment fee if applicable)

You can also just manually pay some towards the bill if you want at the moment.
