Cable Router and connecting an external storage device

Hi,

First time user.

Have cable connection through to a Optus provided Netgear CG3000-2STAUS. I also have a Seagate 1TB expansion desktop model SRDOOF2.

(1) I am trying to connect the external hard drive to the router with the view to sharing storage on the network and have it accessible for the Mac Laptop

(2) I am also then seeing if it is possible to connect the router to the Samsung TV via LAN cable to share files ie videos / music etc.

I have years of media storage but also trying to double its function to placing computer files on the storage over the local network I establish.

I have had trouble accessing the settings of the wifi over a browser (thinking now I've only tried chrome) but it won't let me in, but there is a fair chance I am doing something wrong there and pre-empting I will not know my username and password anyhow.

Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Cable Router and connecting an external storage device

Hey Peter, the USB on your router is likely just for manual updates via a dongle, I don't think it will be suitable for file sharing on the network I'm afraid. Do you have a desktop you could connect the hard drive to for sharing?
