Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge – Error after updating to 7.0

Our software updates team have identified an issue with the latest software update (7.0 Nougat) for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets. Some customers are receiving the error message “IMS Service has Stopped” intermittently after installing the update.

Our engineers are working closely with Samsung to rectify the situation and in the meantime, Samsung have suspended the software update so no further handsets will be affected.

For those who are affected, you can resolve the issue by switching Voice over LTE (VoLTE) on which provides additional benefits including faster call connection times compared to 3G, and be able to talk and browse at the same time using 4G. For more information on VoLTE and instructions on how to switch it on, please refer to optus.com.au/volte-support

My phone doesn't connect to VoLTE. The option shows its on, but the mobile network status continues to show LTE and there's no Wifi Calling option on my S7E.

@Funsky Settings, connections, WiFi calling (2nd option)? You sure you're on the latest update? It may take some time for VoLTE to activate, you'll know its ready when you see the VoLTE icon in your notification bar up the top right.

I'm also having major issues with WiFi connections after the update - can't maintain a connection (tested on multiple networks at home and workplace) and very slow speeds. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

@TheFirst Sorry about that, I've fixed it now.

@wazman21 I haven't seen any other reports of this. If it keeps up though, I'd suggest giving us a call on 133937 and speaking with support or heading in store so they can take a look at it for you

Is there a timeframe for when the update will resume rolling out? Is the fix almost ready to roll out? Will it arrive this week?

Can someone please tell me what does the latest 34 MB update on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge contain?

Hi slf3pnipl Just got the same update to my s7 edge. I'm thinking it could be to patch the ims error, at least in part as the error no longer shows up after updating when I turn volte off.

Hi

I'm a bit confused, does Nougat upgrade on Galaxy S7/S7Edge has been resumed since IMS issue discovered back on 24th Feb.  I still haven't receive any update notification on my S7Edge.   Could Optus update the status please

Hi, I updated my s7 to Android 7.0N and it seems that everything is running smoothly. WiFi calling seems to be working fine as well, i did a full clean install using samsungs official application called samsung switch. Good work optus. 🙂

Hey @shh, the update is yet to be resumed since the critical error from 24/2. Once it resumes we update it here → https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-16-02-2017/ba-p/198463.

Hi, Since updating to Nougat several weeks ago my phone suddenly lost service. I tried resetting network settings and even a factory reset to no avail. Finally worked out that in  Settings>connections>mobile networks>network operators>search networks   after a while the yes optus network appeared and I clicked on it to register it.Then all was well  except it has lost service a couple of times since requiring me to repeat the registration process. Anyone else had this problem? I am not aware of any upate/fix.

Hey Wallygator - I've had no issues with my own S7 Edge. Have you backed up your data and hard reset the device again?

I  should have stated mine is a Galaxy S7 bought on ebay from Hong Kong. No I havent done another reset as this was an arduous process especially when the startup screen was all in chinese. I somehow managed to click a link giving me language options,I then had to reactivate all my apps and settings the way I like them despite having backed up to the cloud. Basically it has only needed reregistering a couple of times since so its not too big a deal.At least I know how to get  service back when it happens.  Has there been an update to the original 7.0 ver released?

No further updates and the only issues that were reported are available @ https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Samsung-Galaxy-S7-and-S7-Edge-Error-after-updating-to-7-0/ba-p...

Ever since the update, whenever I open my text messages, the background is white, and the list of most frequent messages are also in white so I can't read anything until I actually go into the message I wnat to read.

Also whenver I go into my settings, the text in the notification bar at the top is almost same the colour as the the bar itself, therefore making it unreadable. My mate who also has the same phone and update has similar problems.

@beyond2k that's an odd one. Is it a theme issue perhpas? Have you tried swapping the them out temporarily?
