I've recently signed up to a 12 month sim only contract. Can I re-sign onto a 24 month contract with the Note 7?

Hi @Natastrophe1, sorry about that, we had a bug earlier but the link should be working now. 🙂 - Lucy

Can I pre order the Note 7 as an outright purchase to use on my BYO plan with Optus?

My 24 month contract ends this month(29-08-2016).

Can I still pre-order Note 7 without any fee?

I only just got the Note 5 2 weeks ago and now you are advertising the Note 7 I feel ripped off I want to know that I can have my already outdated Note 5 excnaged for the Note 7 I was never warned or notified that you will have the new Note 7. NOT HAPPY

Hey @MaxiWhippet - sorry to hear that you feel that you've been ripped off as a result of this 😞 We can only offer what's available at the time you contact us though, so we wouldn't be able to swap out the phone in this instance to the new Note 7. There is an option with our new plans to upgrade 12 months into your contract, so this is something that you could explore further down the track if you wanted to change phones.

By that time the Note 7 is already outdated

JustinB

That is possible @MaxiWhippet - you would however be able to upgrade to the latest phone that's available at that time. I would recommend keeping an eye out online for info on upcoming releases as it's good to get in the habit of checking this prior to purchasing a new phone.

Did that already and look what happened.

I pre-ordered a Note 7 on 6th-Aug and got an email with temp order number. I was supposed to receive a confiramtion email but have not recived it yet. Could someone from customer service let me know the status of my pre-order?

New Contributor Kris83

@Mamta i suggest giving optus a call, the same thing happened with me and turns out i wasn't approved for it...

Thanks for the info @Kris83. I called optus customer service yesterday but they dont seem to have any information regarding the order. I was given online sales team number 1300929949 who don't pick calls. Not sure how do I get to know the status of my pre-order.

All i need is the new phone that is coming out, I don't want to change my plans as i am happy with it, so how do I preorder my new phone?

JustinB
Blog Author

Hey @Caztz - you would need to switch to one of our in market plans to get the phone on a post-paid contract with us. An option for you to keep your plan is to purchase the phone outright once it's released & use it with your SIM 🙂

The $71 p/m price looks quite attractive for Note 7, but I'm in no position to pre-order now. Does Optus intend to put the price up, once the phablet becomes available ?  Is there a history of Optus offering lower pricing during the pre-order period ?

I don't think I've ever seen the price go up as such but it might have happened in the past. It certainly isn't common though. That said, sometimes Optus offers bonus's during pre-order (like the included memory card this time) that are generally removed once the phone is available to order normally.

I pre-ordered the note 7 on August 5. Got a text on August 6 saying that my order to upgrade my current service has been successful and received my order number by email on August 9. But there has been no further communication and it still just says that you're waiting for the item at the warehouse. But it should have been delivered August 8 according to Samsung.

So what is happening with the stock?

JustinB
Blog Author

Hey @Natkak - launch date is the 19th so orders will ship from then. Generally the day before delivery the status will update on the site to let you know that it's been shipped 🙂

@SamSam it's reassuring that no price increases should be expected. On the other hand, the price differential between Note5 and Note7 looks rather narrow. On current Optus pricing, $65 vs $71 p/m. I guess the Note5 will become cheaper - I hope.

The only improvement I need over my Note3 is a better camera. Its contract runs out in 3 weeks time. If reviews don't highlight a massive improvement on camera from Note5 to Note7, then I might as well go with a Note5.

Yeah it's one of those things you just never really know unfortunately. Optus my increase the prices on Monday or you might buy it on Tuesday and then the prices drop on Wednesday. It's the same for anything though really. I would be inclined to think you'd be right about the price of the Note 5 though. Surely it'll drop once the Note 7 has been available for a little while

Well looks like its finished early at the online store, not at 11.59pm tonight. No stock and they wont allow you to 'pre order' and wait for additional stock delivery. Im stuck with Optus as im upgrading early and paying my remaining contract off, otherwise I could order from Telstra or Vodaphone online. Wont be able to get to a retail store in time now.

As its Samsung doing the offer all they need to do is process the order within the time frame. I dont mind waiting as its worth $300 according to samsung (and looks difficult to buy on its own, I can only see 128gb on their webiste.)

I know I should have done it sooner but I only had today. Thought there would be time.

If anyone still wants the offer from Optus look at getting to a retsail store before they close tonight as a last option. Or order through Voda or Telstra as they are still taking orders.

Pre ordered in store on the 8th and still waiting. Store not helpful at all, really thinking about cancelling and pulling all phones I have away from Optus . Store manager doesn't even have decency to call or even leave lunch room to come out and see me in store. Will give one more chance tomorrow, how can a pre order not come in when other phones do?

I've had nothing but problems with my delivery. I made a complaint yesterday and received a reply that was just a complete brush off. I am disgusted with the service I have received and so disappointed that I have to stay with Optus for another two years.

The level of incompetence shown by each department I have dealt with is disgraceful.

Maybe I will receive a proper response if I post somewhere social rather than dealing with it privately.

That's really disappointing to hear Bucko67 😞

Have you since heard from the store about your order?

Do you have an order number we can check out?

Oh no! Really sorry to hear that's been your experience Natkak 😞

What's been going on with your order?

You're certainly both welcome to PM me and I'll check this out for you.

What is the expected wait time on pre ordered Note 7's? I have called and dropped by the Chermside store on multiple occasions. However they seem to have no idea when it will come in and tell me to check again tomorrow. They do however have the Note 7 in stock for new contracts. I feel like I am being taken for granted as I have already committed to the 24 month contract with Optus for the Note 7.

Hey _me_,

We don't have an ETA just yet, it will be once we have stock from Samsung.

Have you tried another store or Optus reseller?

They may have stock available.

How do I PM you?

New Contributor _me_

Hi Marie,

I went to another store and was told there was nothing they can do as it was pre ordered through Chermside and not them, but the Chermside store should be able to find out where the order. They also said that have Note 7’s in stock, but I may have to wait three weeks for a pre ordered phone is this correct?

Is there a three week wait for pre ordered Note 7’s?

Is there a difference between the pre and post release phones? Is one of them better than the other? Or is it just the SD card? If it is just the SD card could this not just be provided at a later date?

Hey Natkak, you can PM by clicking on my name and selecting Private Message 🙂

The difference between the pre order and the post release is certainly with the SD card.

We're waiting on stock to fill the order, if you were willing to forgo the SD card you'd be able to sign up instore with the phone today.

Unsure as to when we expect SD cards to arrive for these orders.

Happy to pass your feedback on about waiting for the SD to come after receiving your phone.

I preordered it last week, had to insist to 3 different people on different days just to get a confirmation email.  Checked the tracking everyday (sometimes twice) and it always said delivery date unknown.

Checked tonight and it says my order has been cancelled and to ring sales to reorder.

Wow Optus has become so disappointing.  Didn't even have the decency to send me an email letting me know and why.

The drop in customer service and reliability is making me consider going elsewhere
