Hmm just looked at the plans to go with the phone and I thought I was imagining things when I read 100GB. Now that’s what I call a decent amount of data. Think the hotspot would be working overtime with that amount. Looking forward to the review Lucy. Don’t forget the food pics. Smiley LOL

I know, how cool are the 100GB plans. You can read more about them here if you're interested. 😉 And of course, every review comes with the obligatory selfie/food pic Smiley Tongue

Might have to borrow a few bucks from you to pay for the plan but a least the option is there for those heavy duty data junkies like myself.

I think the bigger question will be. What are you using your 100GB of data on @Yeldarb and @LucyS 🙂

I just Pre-Ordered the New Samsung Galaxy S8, can’t wait, and just received my temporary order number, my question is how do I Trade-Up (pay $99) my 12-month-old mobile device?
Occasional Contributor Fuseion

20 bucks more expensive than the Note 7 for pre ordered phones for the same plans ?

No thanks, wake me up when your prices come back to where they should be.

RetiredModerator Hollie

Hey @jrselwood - this is something that is offered in store and something you'd need to discuss at the point of sale. You can find more info on trade-in offers here. If you would like to take up this offer, you would need to contact our online sales support team and cancel your pre-order and go in store once phones are available.

Occasional Contributor Fuseion

@HollieWhat is the outright cost of S8 plus and what was the outright cost of the Note 7 for when pre ordered please

We haven't opened up outright pre-orders, at this stage we've only confirmed pricings bundled in with plans. Same goes for the Note 7's. Pete

@Optus  Why is the Optus firends and Family deal not on offer to exisiting customers ( 25 % off on the current deals )? I have been a customer for over 10 years and have a link to the deal and was rejected because im an existing custome.

Im on sim only because i had the Note 7 that i was forced to hand back and wanted to move to S8 Plus deal thats on offer to anyone that hasnt been a loyal customer and got rejected........

Contributor DayBlossom

I preordered the s8+ but got a temporary number. As it kept logging my account out whenever i tried to preorder it when logged in. But had no problems when I checked if it was me by checking pretending to order the s7.

When will i know if its successful? As i can't read my proof of age id over the phone as i am visionary impaired so i thought logging into ky account on optus site and preordering it be fine but it never kept my account logged in i tried on both my phone and computer so just preordered it in the end.

I know i gotta pay out my headset monthly as upgrading early. But i got no one to help confirm i am the account holder if they ring me.

I can appreciate your concerns with this; however the 25% Family and Friends deal only applied for new customers for us too aimed for employees to refer friends and family to come across. The Note 7 was globally recalled by the manufacturer given the hazard it posed, so for your safety it had to be returned back. All the deals we have on offer are available online → here.

Why would/should i pay 25% more than the next person absolutely 0 interest in that thanks.

Customer retention should just as important as signing up new custormers.

I agree with @Fuseion im looking at plans and have been a long time customer with Optus but am now thinking of going with a competitor as i can get the S8+ cheaper and with more data, yet a new customer can get the phone with a 25% discount seems really unfair.

Occasional Contributor Fuseion
Occasional Contributor

Awesome to be discriminated against for being a loyal customer.

[ I ] to treat a person or particular group of people differently and esp. unfairly, in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated( it mentions race, sexuality and so on, not longterm customers but i feel its applicable )

Its poor form when I am looking to upgrade not only my phone and my partners phone both to the S8 and also resign my broadband contract, to only be told that Optus don't do deals for exsisting customer.

RetiredModerator Esther

Sorry you feel this way Scoots - we believe our current offers are outstanding value for money and whilst we previously had customers go through different departments to get the best deal, we now make the best deal available to everyone on our website saving customers time and not having to go through different departments.

Frequent Visitor nero

But that is the problem @Esther we can't get the best deal available because we are already customers :(. Currently the best deal available is the 25% family and friends discount

RetiredModerator Esther

That offer has finished on March 31 nero and I apologise if you feel you're not being appreciated as a customer - the phone cost are exactly the same for new or existing customers. I totally agree with those who feel they deserve the family and friends discount.   I have been a loyal Optus customer for more than 20 years. I am currently out of contract for one phone and the other will finish next month.  Optus, I think you should reconsider who you value most.

New Contributor Krd

I agree with all the comments on here about not offering existing customers the same deal as new custormers. Obviously, Optus arent really interested in retaining Customers, which is very short-sighted. I am existing Customer and am now waiting to see what the other telcos pricing will be for this very reason. If Optus are not prepared to show loyalty to their existing customers, why should I show loyalty to Optus?

New Contributor Krd

Actually, just seen Virgins S8 plans. Look promising and I will definetely investigate further tomorrow. My wife is with Virgin and they do tend to appreciate their customers business.

Contributor DayBlossom

@Esther Yes I have and nothing is in my spam/junk

New Contributor Krd

Virgin $77 for 4 GB data, Optus $84 for 3.5GB

Virgin $86 for 11 GB, Optus $94 for 10 GB

etc

Looks like not only are optus not treating their existing Customers with respect, they are also pricing higher than competitors.

I'm sorry, but I am so disappointed with Optus. It's not the first time I've raised the issue of some kind of loyalty program for customers. Looking at the number of people that are making the same kind of comments, it's disappointing that Optus just don't seem to care or listen - I even had an Optus sales person tell me streaming Netflix without using my data cap was a fantastic bonus that I should be happy about! Really? That's the best thing?

Looking at the market offerings I can go to almost any other provider and get a better deal that Optus is offering, and that's just the offers they have for anyone. I've been an optus customer for nearly 10 years, and I get nothing for it. I'm not demanding a gold plated phone or free data. I would like to see Optus offer some form of 'thank you for being with us for so long' incentive, especially when it comes time to renew or upgrade.

and don't even bring up Optus Perks - that is such a narrow appeal it's almost worthless.

Moderator Marie
Moderator

Thanks for your feedback wallet72, I'll certainly pass it on.

We believe we offer fair and reasonable plans which match the market and have some amazing value inclusions such as Music Streaming, Mobile TV (on selected plans), Optus Sports (on selected plans) and of course our call, SMS and data inclusions.

Rather than rewarding loyalty we're passing on the same plans and offering to all our customers.

As mentioned we do have Perks available to our customers too, is there something in particular you're not loving about this or would like to see, I'd be happy to pass any feedback you have to our Perks team to check out.

Hello,

I ordered S8 on a 24t-month plan on Wednesday (I'vebeen with Optus on a $60 Sim only plan for th elast 2 year and I have added this new plan to my exisitng account) but I'm still awaiting any formal acknowldgement of my order. During the weekend, I chatted with someone online and they provided me with a termporary order number (S5941366) and they asked me to call direclty. I called today and waited for over 50 minutes to speak with someone, but finally had to give up. Is there a way to get an order update?

Thanks in advance

Hey @KK1978, the number you've been given looks to be a temporary saved order reference number.  If you'd like to send us a PM with your account details, we'll check on the status of this one. We'd just need your full name, DOB and mobile number.

Occasional Contributor Fuseion

@Marie Now that the friends and family deal has ended you are offering the same plans to all users, that was not the case for the entire month of March.

Exisiting customers it seems are expected to pay a 25 % loyality tax to Optus whilst new customers get the good deals.

Thanks Optus.

Contributor wallet72

I'm really sorry, but when I get the reply from the officials that Optus thinks it's plans are 'fair and reasonable' I have to scratch my head.

Woolworths - yes, the place you go to get your groceries - beats Optus plans for the S8 and S8+. I know there's no included Spotify or Netflix or Google streaming, but alot of people don't really care about that. Including 1Gb of data in the basic plan is insulting, that is next to useless for modern day smartphones. The mid range Woolworths plan is cheaper and includes 4Gb of data.

C'mon Optus, it's one thing to treat loyal customers with contempt, but then to try and push such awful plans as 'fair and reasonable' is getting insulting.

Occasional Contributor swhibb

Yes I have pre-orders the S8. I ordered at 10minutes past midnight on Wednesdy night/thursday (31st) and got a temporary number straight away. Had not after 5 days got the read order number so today rang and the girl on the phone gave me my order number. Which is fabulous, but I can't track it.

I also on the weekend or Friday I think, rang the Optus team about no loyalty stuff. They put me through to 'customer service' where I had to wait to get put OFFSHORE then they could do nothing and put me back to sales. I eventually got someone (HERE) but they were very arrogantly saying no loyalty  - we would rather show you loyalty if you bundle your internet and get $20 off the phone, that is a generous offer - he said. Only we only just got NBN turned on last week so signed with my broadband provided already. Um, dude, I have been with you for like way over 10 years and I get jack but new people get a discount??? I didn't feel like going through the process of cancelling with another Optus team (didn't want to wait - pretty peeved they don't value customers) and signing up with Virgin (who use Optus) so will stick this one out. But next sign up I will think differently.

Hi, it's me again.

I have posted a question regarding my order status but so far have not heard whether the order went through or not...

Is it possible for someone to reply in the next two or three hours? The Woolworths deal is expiring tonight, and if my order with Optus cannot be confirmed a week after making it, I would like to move my number and go with the Telstra/Woolworths deal...

Thansk in advance.

Hey @swhibb, please PM us your order ref number and we can check the status of your order. However, you will only be able to track your order online once it actually dispatches from our warehouse. We certainly value your loyalty but when you bundle more than one service we're able to offer further discounts. However, we change our plans from time to time to try and offer the best possible value and service.

I know I was told will take 3 to 5 business days for my order to be confirmed and get an actual order number over a temporary order number.

Its been 3 business days or 5 days since i preordered it now, I preordered mine at 12.17am on the 31st of March so I don't understand how mine would take up to 5 business days to get an order number over this temporary number.

@Optus So i was on live chat last night to see if I can strike up a deal to re contract on the new s8. Firstly i was told the 10gb deal was ending yesterday and I need to sign up or the deal would finish today- incorrect deal ends in June. $94 is to much for the plans that are out there so I questioned about the bundle deal. I was told if I already have a bundle discount it would continue into the new contract, I ring customer service to confirm- again incorrect no discounts for mobile deals at all. Its disappointing as I have been with Optus since 10/2000 and everthing works but when you are mislead it frustrating.

Occasional Contributor Legendary007

@Toomey Order confirmed now, pretty keen!

S8+ goodness in Orchid Grey.

Will Optus stores be stocking cases from launch day?

Been looking at the X-Doria cases, though their site doesn't allow me to change shipping to Australia.

RetiredModerator Serena
RetiredModerator

Hi @Scoots, I'm really sorry to hear about your online chat experience with this agent. Are you able to let me know what their name/employee number is so we can ensure the feedback is passed on? I can confirm the 10GB is still currently available HERE for limited time. If you have a home and internet service with us already the discount does stay the same (normally applied on the home and internet bill). We do try to keep our plans competitive and most of all flexible for our customers. 17 years is a very long time and thank you for sticking with us for so long, I'm sure you've noticed the way our plans have definitely changed since the Cap Plan days 🙂

We do listen to all the feedback given and the biggest one was "We want to stay with you for another 24 months but why are you charging me an upgrade fee to stay and why do new customers get more, where’s the loyalty?"  The biggest change for us is all the unlimited calls/SMS/MMS now included, huge amounts of data but most of all the removal of upgrade fees (with-in a 24 month contract). If you choose to upgrade you can now do so at any point with no fee and the only thing you'd need to pay is the remaining handset payments of the current phone. All plans are now available to new and recontracting customers too.

The pricing of our plans and phones can change monthly, what's available this month may not be next month. We do hear and listen to all the feedback and we try to please all our customers however, there will be times where we can't meet all our customers’ wants/needs but it doesn't stop us from trying 🙂

Occasional Contributor swhibb
Occasional Contributor

I still haven't heard formally by email about my upgrade and recontract. Still only a temporary number in my email.

I appreciate they would be flat chat but still it will be a week at midnight tonight and no formal email of my recontract. Nor the order number.

Not really happy about this...

Providing the deliveries arrive on time @Legendary007, the stores should have cases available 🙂 I haven't seen this brand before and according to their site they don't ship to Australia in their list. There is an Australia brand that has a good rep called Otter Box, their site is found HERE. Stores should be stocking this line too if you wanted to see one before purchasing 🙂

@Serena I would be happy to say who it was but I would suggest letting everyone know so there is no confussion. @swhibb  Best to message Optus on Facebook, they were much more helpful with me.

What the mods on here didn't seem to mention to me in pm was my order was pending approval from me because of renewing earlier so paying off my phone in the next 3 bills needed to be confirm with me. That's what I was informed on Optus chat on Facebook which I told them I am happy to do that way. Now my order is being finalised.

I was on live chat and asked the question of getting the new S8 on the $85 plan for $94 and brought up that woolies and voda both have 12GB offers for a few dollars cheaper. The sales rep kindly said they match the 12GB from the 10GB offered. I was shocked as I read this forum and no one has got the same offer... however the rep then told me the only way to match this was to get a new number, which doesn't make sense to me as I want to keep my number. I explained it was going to be a recontract as I was off contract from my S6 and she retracted the offer. They then suggested I go to a sim only plan and then recontract which doesn't really make any sense.

I want to stay with Optus but it is getting harder when you see other companies like woolies that provides the Telstra 4G network doing better offers than my current provider or how Optus loves new customers with their extra bonuses while neglecting their existing base. Can you possibly just increase to 12GB and you will get me signed up for another 2 years. Otherwise the lure of the Telstra 4G network is calling on Woolies mobile.

Hi Marcel. I rang the number and was told by sales there is no retentions team by the sales agent. Seems like I am wasting my time with Optus. He refused to pass me through to anyone and ended the conversation by saying we can only offer what is on the website. Thanks for nothing

Ok I am getting sick and tired of being ignored first here then Facebook...

I confirmed with Optus on Facebook about I am happy to pay off my phone in the next 3 bills so I can get the S8 Plus which delivery starts next Friday!

Optus told me they had let the team know and my sale should be finalised soon and I will receive an SMS once completed. The phones are being delivered next Friday and I still haven't received an official order tracking number. Optus on Facebook has ignored all my messages after they had said any questions please ask.

If I dont know whats going on soon with an official order tracking number instead of the temporary one I will sign up with Telstra instead and be done with Optus. I am getting fed up!

Hey Jeff_01 - the best price we're able to offer you is what's available on the site. I apologise if you're not happy with this, we do however offer a lot of other perks such as the unmetered TV and music streaming.

Hey DayBlossom - can assure you that we're not ignoring you on Facebook, we've just been swamped and we're getting back to everyone as quickly as we can. If you've been sending multiple messages that may mean that it'll take us longer to reply as we contact our customers in the order in which we've received their messages; the oldest ones being replied to first. Hi Glen. Thanks for reading my previous post but not my opening one. I guess Optus would rather gain new customers than retain loyal customers. With offering the plan I wanted if I signed a new service and not offering it to a recontracting and once again 'loyal' customer. So you can offer a below the line contract for a new customer or even a 25% off but once you are loyal this is not avaliable.  This confirms the direction that you guys are heading in, I would like to say if you could pass on this feedback but actually know that feedback goes nowhere. I was once an Optus Promoter but the way I have been treated during this process with conflicting information I have turned into a Detractor. I am still willing to be saved if there was an outbound team that calls but I guess by the end of the day I will be on a new contract with another provider as this team does not exist. Cheers and beers

I'm sorry, I can't keep quiet any longer. I apoligise to all the moderators that are just doing their job, but please don't treat us like idiots. The Optus 'deals' are not the best on the market, and stop saying streaming music etc is a great thing - others offer it on better plans, and to be honest not many people would care too much considering the prevalence of wifi these days.

I also really wish Optus would just have the guts to admit they don't care about existing customers, and to be honest never have. Once you sign up you are committed so why should Optus bother with time and effort to keep you happy? That's what it feels like. Getting an offer to sign up, but having that offer withdrawn because you are an existing customer? Having access to a better offer if you give up your phone number? Offering NOTHING as an incentive to renew or upgrade? Tell me how that is encouraging people to stay with Optus? How is that encouraging people to even tell people to join Optus? One happy customer tells three people, one unhappy customer tells ten - that's the old business ideal.

So I will ask it plainly and simply right here: What is Optus offernig me AS AN EXISTING CUSTOMER to renew or upgrade to stay with them, something that is not available to new customers and shows how Optus appreciates its existing customers?

I said it in a previous post, you are doing something wrong when the place I go for groceries offers a better deal on a new phone and plan than you do.

Evening @Tejas51, once the phone has been dispatched from the warehouse, you'll get an SMS sent to your post. Then you'll be able to track the delivery HERE 🙂

@Serena thanks for that answer.. but it doesn't answer the question i asked. i asked if will it be deliveed on the 21st, or will it leave the warehouse on the 21st?

This will be confirmed once the courier has picked the phone up from our warehouse and you get the SMS alert. Generally though, most phones are delivered on the day of launch in metropolitan areas.

Naaw I am more regional only 20 min south of Tweed Heads though. I may not get mine that day which is a bummer. I didn't know I could pre order in store, then I would have been able to pick it up on the day. Sad panda 😟

Sorry about the confusion with this @swhibb, hopefully you're not delayed by too long when getting your new handset 🙂

Hi,

I had previosly spoken to 2 online sales reps.  The first was a call that I received from YourMoblie Network and the second "I believe" was from the same company.

The first caller mentioned to me that I will be getting an S8+ on the $105 plan and that I would be able to upgrade my phone after 12 months for $99 AND I WOULD BE ABLE KEEP MY PHONE.  I wanted this in writing as a confirmation of my discussion and I didnt receive anything.

I called up YourMobile Network and spoke with another rep - Oscar was his name I believe.  He promised me the same thing.  And he did NOT give me any confirmation again!

I was feeling very skeptical after my discussions, so I called up Optus for clarification.   I just finished taking to Lex at Optus and he has promised that I would be getting the S8+ on the $105 plan after correcting the previous reps order of an S8 instead of the S8+ that I requested twice!

Can someone please confirm that this order has been correctly processed?

I was told that being a Optus Business Plan member I can get the $99 upgrade to a new phone and KEEP MY PHONE.  Can someone please give me clarity about this promise?

Really sorry for the inconvenience caused @dtong1. All our new plans do have the 12 month upgrade offer but the handset on the contract has to be returned in working order. Not sure why the sales offered something that's not available. Could you please confirm if your Optus account is under your name or is it a business name?

It should be under my business name:  XXXXXXXX

Thanks for confirming that @dtong1. Please note I've just edited the post as it had your business name visible as a public post. Some customers don't prefer their details visible as such. With regards to the order I may not be able to check this because your account is a business account but I'll still give it a try. Could you please PM us your full name, mobile number, date of birth, your position in the business and your order number as well for ID?

Damn on whirlpool there are people from Vodafone who got their deliveries today. My music and TV free data has been activated as of about an hour ago. But it says my order is at warehouse being packaged. Why was it activated already, I thought I had to activate both of them? Unless they have switched my plan already today and not informed me even though I have no phone or activated new phone. Being regional I doubt will get tomorrow and then only next week probably nearer to store date. I should have pre-ordered in store and picked up tomorrow

Apologies for the hassle @swhibb.  Yes deliveries to regional areas may take a day or two longer as compared to metro areas. Let us know if you want us to check your order. Please PM us your mobile number, full name and date of birth for ID.
