A key piece of infrastructure within the NBN network is something called the Point of Interconnect (POI). This is the part of the NBN network that allows Retail Service Providers (RSP’s), like Optus, to connect customers to the wholesale NBN network. In 2011, during the early stages of the NBN rollout, temporary POI’s were installed in 5 major capital cities by NBN and since then, 121 established POI’s have been installed nationwide.
NBN Co is now in the process of migrating services from the temporary POI’s to the established POI’s in conjunction with RSP’s. This process will take between 12 and 18 months in total however the time spent in individual areas will be significantly less.
Unfortunately this means there may be some disruption to services for customers in and around where the POI’s are located. In order to complete the migration, we need to take your connection offline temporarily during the upgrade period. We're so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

There are several things you can do to ensure you continue to receive calls or have access to the internet during any downtime.
How long are Service Interruptions during Upgrades?
The dates we give you will let you know when the work is scheduled to start and finish – but doesn’t mean your service will be out that whole time. We estimate a service downtime of approximately two hours between 11:00pm to 6:00 am
