If you could only have 5 apps, what would you choose?

In an age with gigabytes galore and limitless data plans, it may seem strange to only have 5 apps on your phone. But if a clean-up is necessary, this is a good way to start.

Of course, our first picks are My Optus and Optus @ Home apps. The following are some of the most prominent app categories we think would survive the cull:

  • Messenger apps: Because how can you remember to take the bins out if a fellow responsible adult doesn’t message to remind you?
Messenger apps offer quick and easy connectivity from person to person. They're a great way to keep in contact with friends, family, and colleagues.

  • Social media apps: A category useful for entertainment and connectivity.
There are countless social media apps. Ones tailored to photos, videos, business profiles, and even to create the perfect picture for your social media. They might get a bad rap, but social media allows us to stay connected in a way our grandparents would be jealous of.

  • Gaming apps: A category with wide variety, gaming apps are a gift for anyone who loves being occupied.
Gaming apps can be handy on your daily commute; on a long-haul flight when your in-flight entertainment crashes, in the waiting room when the doctor’s running late... the list goes on.

  • Weather apps: Weather apps help us choose what to wear, when to wear it, and if we’ll need an umbrella while wearing it.
It’s safe to say we’d struggle without a reliable weather app, especially as the weather starts to warm up.

  • Organisation apps: Apps centred around time management are perfect for everyday organisation.
These apps help with your daily schedule; time management, health and fitness, and even to protect your data.

  • Entertainment apps: TV, movie, music and sporting apps provide convenience to busy people who need entertainment on the go.

  • Transport and mapping apps: Because the above categories are useless if you can’t get where you’re going.

Tell us: What are the 5 apps you would choose to keep? Leave a comment below as we’d love to know Smiley LOL

Nothing strange about only using 5 apps given I only use 3. BitTorrent, andFTP and the AFL app during the football season. Most Android devices come preloaded with all the necessary goodies so additional apps really aren't needed.

I actually don't have the FB app on my phone, just messenger.

I hardly text these days, the majority of messages I send/receive are through messaging apps.

I did say messenger as most people who have spent any length of time in this industry don't want to be contacted. Smiley Happy

I'm surprised Uber hasn't come up yet.

Mine are quite random:

  • MyCricket
  • Sportsbet (gamble responsibly)
  • "Song for Baby" (plays lullaby music for my little ones to save me singing longer than 10mins)
  • GIPHY (I love a good GIF)
  • and wait for it... Words With Friends, which for me should just be Words with Friend as I only play with one person now because people stop playing me after I always beat them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    There you go!

Well here goes to have my 5 choices laughed at.

1) Microsoft Edge browser, works perfectly for me across all my devices, Android, Windows and I.O S.

2) For messaging Pulse. Love the ways it allows me to view my messages and send on my Windows PC.  I know there is now windows phone app for Android but doesn't work as well.

3) Gmail app

4) TuneIn radio. I stream all my radio at home and in the car.

5) Freeview FV. As I am away about 6 months of the year in my caravan I stream most of my tv. Cheating here, along side this app I need Fake my GPS app so I can get the Sydney news programs whilst in other tv areas and also the Google home app to set up my Chromecast and Google home speaker.

Left out Google maps as I can view this on my browser and the navigation on modern cars does the job.

I've now realised I can't manage with just 5 apps as I need Google music.  Why not Spotify?  Google music seems to work better with the Google home speaker and on my car Ford synch 3.

This is a tough one for sure! Can we go with 10 @Megan_YC? hehe

  1.  Facebook Messenger - because apparently it's the only way millennial's communicate these days! Smiley Tongue
  2.  Sleep Sounds - I can't sleep in dead silence, I always need rain or wind or something!
  3.  Reddit - Purely for gifs of puppies & doggos
  4.  Spotify - Because I can't do anything productive without listening to a podcast or some old school Brittney Spears
  5.  Any Banking app  Smiley Happy

I caught an error this time Ray but it normally doesn't display anything at all. It simply does not post anything. Try tagging the person who created the blog in this case Megan.

@Dan_C & @Ray_YC do you know what the problem might be?

I'm a little left of the middle:

1) BBM - Best cross platform messenger/social media platform out there and I still have loads of contacts.

2) Spotify - Long drives in my job and I hate having to hunt for radio stations every few hundred Km's

3) Banking App (not going to say which one) Smiley Wink

4) Optus Sport - If only you could fix up the amount of times Optus apps access unnecessary devices services they might feature more heavily.

5) Chrome

This is my personal device.  My work devices is basically Microsoft apps.

As I said, if you could fix up the access issue on Optus Apps, they might get more use.

Yep I didn’t mention Chrome as its one the goodies that comes pre-loaded on most Android devices. It’s probably the number 1 app for me with its seamless syncing ability across all my Android and Apple devices. I must say I don’t care much for the recent update. Ugly as Smiley LOL
