Smartphone leasing from Optus allows you to lease an eligible phone from us on our new 24 month My Plan Business Flex plans. These new business plans also give you the option to upgrade to a new phone after 12 months , simply by paying a one-off fee of $99, returning the current handset in good working order and signing up to a new 24-month plan.

Smartphone leasing can benefit your small or medium business in the following ways:

1. Leasing means you and your colleagues can always access the latest smartphones

The ability to have the latest mobile handset is a key benefit of smartphone leasing. With the My Plan Business Flex plans, you have the option to upgrade to a new phone every year for just $99. All you need to do is return the current phone in good working order, sign up to a new 24 month plan and you’re good to go.

2. You could save your business money in the long run

While you don’t own the phone, you could pay up to $10 less on your monthly bill on some My Plan Business Flex and phone combinations compared to similar Optus My Plan  Business options.

3. Reduce your business’ e-waste

Minimising e-waste is an important objective for any business. When you come to upgrade your leased smartphone with us, we will make sure the old phone is put to good use – and you can feel good knowing you’ve done your bit to reduce e-waste.

So how does smartphone leasing for small and medium businesses work? We’ve broken down the process into three steps:

Step 1

Choose from our range of best-selling smartphones and sign up to a 24 month My Plan Business Flex.

Step 2

Upgrade to a new phone after 12 months for $99 if you return the current one in good working order and sign up to a new 24 month plan.

Step 3

If you don’t want to upgrade after 12 months there are a few options to choose from when your lease contract expires. You can return the phone to us in good working order (otherwise a damage fee applies), make an offer to buy the phone at fair market value (which we’ll advise you of at the time) or have the flexibility to continue your lease for up to six months more and pay the monthly plan and phone charges,

Ts & Cs

Damage and cancellation fees may apply. Fair Go Policy applies. All for use within Australia. Monthly device charges are reduced by a credit. You don’t own the device and you’ll be charged a damage fee of up to $499 if the device is not returned in good working order, including at the end of the lease. What you pay if you cancel early, and whether you can return the device or make an offer to buy it for fair market value, depends on when you cancel, but it could include a cancellation fee plus all monthly device charges (increased by device credits) for your remaining contract term. How not smartphone leasing can save your small business:

1. Not leasing means you and your colleagues can always access the latest smartphones. Optus provide the exact same $99 upgrade path on their My Plan Plus contracts.

2. You could save your business money in the long run. Short term, leasing offers a small ($3 - $10) monthly payment discount (So $120-$240 max over two years). Long term the business never gets to keep the phone. A My Plan Plus may cost a little more upfront, but after two years the business owns $400+ worth of phone.

3. Reduce your business’ e-waste. Sell/Gift the phone if you don't want it - nothing more e-friendly (and wallet friendly) than extending its life cycle. Alternatively drop it in a recycle bin at the supermarket.

4. Reduce the risks associated with leasing a phone. If damaged it can only be repaired by Optus or the manufacturer (even a screen replacement). If lost or destoryed, then the business still owes Optus the fair market value for the phone after 24 months. A My Plan Plus can be repaired by anyone and the most you will pay if the phone is gone is the 24 monthly installments.
