We want to give you the best Optus Sport viewing experience possible.  Depending upon what content you are accessing and the method, there are a number of factors that can affect the speed and quality of viewing you’re able to achieve, so we’ve listed some of the main ones below and offered our tips on how you can improve your connection.

General Tips for viewing Optus Sport

EPL Reduce.png

Reduce the Number of devices using the Internet

  • The number of people / devices using the internet at the same time at home will slow down the speeds
  • Check to make sure no-one else is using your internet at the same time you are watching Optus Sport

Tips for viewing  Premier League via Yes TV by Fetch

Connect Direct to Modem

 Recommended for best results

  • Connect your set-top box to the modem with an Ethernet cable
  • Use port “1” or “2” on your modem

Use a Power Line Adaptor

  • Next best option is using a Power Line Adaptor kit
  • Speeds can be affected by poor electrical wiring in the home
  • Ensure the Power Line Adaptor is plugged into a power socket and NOT a power board

Using Wifi

  • Ideally your Set top box and Wifi Modem should be close together - the further away the slower the speeds
  • Wi Fi available for use with Yes TV by Fetch Gen 3 set top boxes
  • A Wifi Extender can be used if the Set Top Box is too far away

Need some more information? check out these points below

Direct Connection

  • If you’re watching Optus Sport at home on the big screen, you might be using Yes TV by Fetch or Yes TV by Fetch Mini  or your Apple TV or running an HDMI cable from your computer. Whatever device you’re using, you’ll have the best experience on that device if you use an ethernet cable between the modem/router and your device.

  • If your home is cabled, and your device is on a different floor, or in a different room, use an ethernet cable between your device and the cable outlet.

Equipment

  • Aged equipment can affect speeds particularly when impacted with a virus or malware.
  • Make sure your computer is free of viruses and malware.
  • Make sure you have the most recent software update installed.

WiFi

  • WiFi connections are not direct connections to your broadband service, and may be impacted by line of sight, distance from your router, as well as walls/floors between your router and the device accessing your internet.
  • WiFi performance can also be impacted by interference from surrounding devices and nearby users on the same channel. Here’s a tip – don’t try and watch Optus Sport on your TV in the kitchen!
  • If you use WiFi, you can boost the signal by using a Power Line Adaptor, or a WiFi Extender.

Congestion

  • If there are a lot of people using the net in your neighbourhood, your internet at home can be impacted, much like congestion on a busy road. Typically these periods happen when the kids get home from school, you get home from work, and/or after dinner.
  • Congestion can occur by users in the home too! If everyone’s on the net when you’re trying to watch your favourite team, then you might be impacted.

I purchased Optus sport for the spurs games so wasn't I happy when you didn't have this weeks game for viewing. If it happens again I'm gonna cancel and just wait for it to be on fox sports

I switched from Telstra to Optus; one of the reasons being Optus Sport.  AT NO TIME WAS IT MENTIONED THAT SPORTS IS NOT AVAILABLE ON WINDOWS PHONE!  OK I can (almost) accept that Optus can't be bothered to develop an app to allow me to watch the advertised content but I can't even log on to use the other features such as news or even results.

Not impressed at all.

Fortunately I have only signed up for 12 months and hopefully my Premier league team will be relegated.

Hey mungral! I can see Guy from our team is keeping in touch via your other post and it's best to keep replies to one post to avoid delays and multiple conversations. Thanks

Is the congestion answer for real?? "If there are a lot of people using the net in your neighbourhood..." - all this means is that the Optus Network is not fir for purpose and overprescribed. Optus can fix this quite easily but they couldn't care less - they sold their lemon of s network to the NBN who aslo found it not fit for purpose and plan to tear the entire thing down.

Are we expected to believe Optus are going to spend one cent fixing the issue of their poor cable network or the oversubsciption of the network.

I pay for the speed pack 100Mbit and bwteen 7pm and midnight I'm lucky if I can get 3-4Mbit. In the last two weeks on three occasions in the evening I have had to use my phone as an access point to watch Stan and Netflix.

Really sorry to hear that mikeyjames2 😞 Did our techs confirm this over the phone that your service is currently impacted by congestion? If so, what other options were discussed moving forward? Completely understand how frustrating this would be and can assure that we're always looking to roll out upgrades as soon as we can. However, upgrading a site / exchange is a very complex process which involves a lot of resources and planning, which we're definitely working on. I would suggest keeping an eye on our service status page here for updates. Thanks for being patient.

I only have praise for Optus whose standards of service & courtesies are in my experiences to none. But why is my NBN connection not giving me any extra speed or wifi strength over the 4G plus I had previously?

RetiredModerator Miles_R

Hey Richie8888, thanks for those kind words! Difficult to say without looking at your account. 4G plus offers very fast speeds and can be quicker than NBN is some cases. Would you be able to send us through a Private Message with your service number, full name and DOB so that we can see exactly which plan you're on and compare that with 4G plus?

No word on this happening at the moment, johnnyred. This service is currently available on Foxtel. Perhaps it's something that we could look at in the future.

@Marcel, yes, it has been confirmed to me several times over the last 8-9 months that it is congestion and nothing I can do. Each time I have been told there are planned upgrades to the network and I will be kept in the loop about progress. I haven't heard a thing after each promise.

Are you actually asking me to believe that the network is not massively overprescribed ? Are you trying to say that there is no reason why all prescribers shouldn't get great speeds?

We have Fibre To The Premises at work and still have slowdowns in the evenings. Only one possible reason for this - the area is overprescribed and therefore not enough bandwidth to go around.

At least tech support are generally being honest now rather than trying to blame non-Optus routers, faulty cable modems, etc.

Hey @mikeyjames2, when you can could you please send through a PM with your account info so I can check it out? Thank you.

I was watching, well trying to watch the Everton v Man City games on Saturday.  My internet speeds are 50mbs download and 25mbs upload. I was the only one in the house using the Internet and it is a fibre optic connection.

the quality of the picture was shocking and kept cutting out.  This is simply not good enough and as others have mentioned above, not for for purpose.

Please advise on what you can do to sort this out as it seems like it is not an isolated incident.  Indeed, this is not the first time it has happened to me!

cheers

Hey DJOTA, sorry to hear this and not the experience we want anyone to have 😞 Have you called in and reported this to our tech team on 131344 yet? Our techs are the best people to speak with as they have the necessary tools to run some tests on your line / set top box.

Hi Marcel,

Thanks for the swift response.  I have not yet had chance to call them.  I did a speed check on my internet on Saturday and it was running well.

I was streaming from the app on my iPhone through my Apple TV.

I will call them when I get the chance but thought there might be some solution to be found here.  It is poor when the service isn't up to standard so I hope they can sort it out.

RetiredModerator Marcel

No worries DJOTA. I'm sure our techs will be able to isolate this fault and confirm what may be causing this. I can understand your frustration though but please keep us posted on how you get on. Cheers!

For the past few weeks the live and on demand games have been sticking. This has never happened before and I've been subscribing since the beginning of last season. I'm trying to watch Arsenal v West BRom now but have just given up. If the next games is like this then I will just stop the service and watch the games on Arsenal.com. I also found new it infuriating that this is the only way I can get any technical support from Optus

That's not good to hear @Jim24.  Could you please confirm what device is this on? Does this happens on on demand videos as well or just  Live Stream?

I am trying to watch the second game of the winter World Cup (along with half of Australia); and your stream freezes every 2 minutes. This is genuinely ridiculous.

I have been waiting four weeks for my Fetch Box to be fixed as it has had a login =error since I got it. I am still being billed for the use despite it being unusable. Another thing - the previous Fetch Box was so poor that every EPL game I streamed as blurry from start to finish, even the highlights and live games. As the others on this site also attest, this can only be a fault of the bandwidth available

Get Optus Sport via Satelite, it’s crystal clear and true HD.

Ask for it and insist on it, they will deny it exists but insist on it, ask to speak to Management.
