Changes to Third-Party Content Charges for Home Wireless Broadband and Mobile Broadband customers

We constantly review our relationship with Third Party Content Providers to ensure we’re offering our customers the best mix of services and content offerings. We’re also working to reduce the number of customers who find they’ve been charged unexpectedly.

 

As a result, we’ve decided to no longer offer you the ability to pay for one-off and subscription purchases through your Optus service (including subscriptions set up prior to 31 January 2018)  on all your Mobile Broadband and Home Wireless Broadband services that use the Optus network from 31 January 2018.

What are Third Party Content charges?

Third Party Content charges appear on your Optus bill or come out of your Prepaid credit when you subscribe to online content such as mobile games and quizzes provided by Third Party Content Providers. We’ve listened to feedback about how frustrating it can be when an unexpected Third Party Content charge appears on your Optus bill or is deducted out of your Prepaid credit and this is why we are making the changes outlined above.

Can Optus Mobile Broadband or Home Wireless Broadband customers continue to use Premium SMS or Direct Carrier Billing services to subscribe or purchase from Third Party Content Providers?

No. One-off and subscription purchases (whether they’re existing at 31 January 2018 or new) from Third Party Providers will cease entirely for Optus Mobile Broadband and Home Wireless Broadband customers from 31 January 2018.
 
Will these changes impact how I subscribe to my video or music streaming services like Netflix, Spotify and Google Play?


If you’re an Optus Mobile Broadband or Home Wireless Broadband customer, then you won’t be able to charge one-off and subscription purchases from Third Party Content Providers to your Optus bill or have them come out of your Prepaid credit, including Netflix, Spotify and Google Play (whether they’re existing at 31 January 2018 or new). They can be purchased using other payment methods provided by the Third Party Content Providers, such as PayPal or credit card payment.

 
Since my subscription content can no longer be charged to my Optus bill or deducted out of my Prepaid credit, can I pay for it in other ways?

Yes, each Third Party Content Provider provides a range of payment options for you to utilise, including PayPal and credit card payment. Optus customers can continue to purchase subscription mobile content using other payment methods, such as PayPal or credit card payment, through the Third Party Content Providers.

 
Will I still be able to enter competitions and have those charged to my Optus bill or deducted out of my Prepaid credit?

For Optus Mobile Broadband and Home Wireless Broadband customers, one-off purchases like competition entries can no longer becharged to your Optus bill or deducted out of your Prepaid credit from 31 January 2018. To pay for them you will have to use other payment methods, such as PayPal or credit card.
