Android Software Updates.pngWhen a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides info on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 31/08/2016. If no info is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices & once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, where it’s made available for a small number of users (5% for example) initially. If no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll be gradually made available to more & more users over a period of a couple of weeks.

Any news on when the Nougat update will start to hit devices?

Hey @Rot_hacker, no exact ETA as yet. At this stage it's only appears to have been successfully rolled out for the Huwaei Ascend P7 On topus. Nexus devices will be next with testing having been finalised as of late August. I'd suggest keep an eye on this thread for any further information Smiley Happy Dan

Hi again (x3)!

And no response yet...

Any new updates for the Optus branded Galaxy Tab A 9.7 4G LTE (SM-P555) purchased from an Optus store?

It never seems to be on your list, and yet worldwide updates have already been released. Please include on future lists.

Thanks, Will

My Samsung Galaxy S5 updated to 6.0.1 back on August 4th.

Last night there was another update - the download was 29.31MB.

I assume it was the August security patch?

It just displayed "What's new : Improved stability"

Hi,

Seen that the Nexus 6p has been completed but I haven't received the update notification. Do we have an ETA on when devices will receive the update?

Cheers.

Testing on our end has been completed so shouldn't be too far off @mike_112, not able to provide a specific time frame though sorry

Thanks @Tris for the quick reply.

Is the firmware that Optus uses differs much from the Google firmware or is it just testing to make sure it's fully compatible with the Optus network?

It's primarily to ensure it works as it should on the Optus network @mike_112, it's not identical to the Google firmware as far as I know though

So I have been keeping an eye on this blog and been disappointed to see that there has been no movement for the sont xperia z3 - however - it appears out of nowhere I now have the update for 6.0.1! But there are no updates on here for it on here?

Not sure if other xperia z3 users have got the upgrade too Smiley Happy

@ra3jae My Xperia Z3 got upgraded to 6.0.1 some months ago. I'm awaiting to receive the August security patch. Team, is the below process correct for the upgrades & updates: - Google send the upgrades & patches to the manufacturers for testing. - Once the manufacturer completed the test. Those are sent to the carrier for further testing. - When the carrier finished testing, the upgrades & patches are being deployed to the end-user device

hi, i have a Sony xperia Z2. when will optus provide the Andriod 6 update? this question has been asked many times here, but there is still no proper answer from optus. will optus ever provided this update?  at the moment, it looks more and more likely optus is holding this update back, so customers waiting on Andriod 6, like myself, will need to buy a new phone to get Android 6. i hope this isnt the case. i look forward to an answer. thank you.

Mojo1 - When we receive the update for testing, we'll provide an update via this page or a new blog post.

Davo19 - The process you've outlined is correct as per my own understanding.

Are the Xperia updates sitting with Optus? Sony has stated it's been with carriers for months, and now people are saying Z2/3 has been updated to 6, but still no word on Z5.
