Android Software Updates – 29/03/2017

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device.  The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country.  Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of 29/03/2017. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

Whats happened to the update for the samsung s6?:

"Google March Security Update + bug fixes - Testing expected to complete late March"

If its been released i haven't received it yet.

@Anrew122 i was noticing and wondering the same thing . They say samsung haven't sent them the nougat update but samsung say they sent it to optus weeks ago. To be honest they just want us to get the S8

An honest answer would be nice from a telco

What's going on with security patches?!

I just got a Huawei Mate 9 and it's only got the November 2016 security patch. ☹️

February Security update came through this morning for my Galaxy S6 Edge.

With the S8 being released in a few weeks, I bet Nougat will nto be released for the S6 before that.

Has anyone else had any issues since the 6.0.1 update for Samsung S6 onver the weekend??

- I now don't get 4G or 3G...

I assume the update was for VoLTE....

RetiredModerator Pete

@Kaiman - At this stage the S6 Edge has voLTE enabled; however not the S6. Once we have more info on this, we'll update this thread.

@Jack_gecko - No word on this yet; however we'll update this thread once we have more info.

@rayyyyyand @Jack_gecko I think we've been abandoned for sony updates. Smiley Sad
I asked Sony Mobile AU on FB and they confirmed the update was on its way to optus for testing, 3 weeks ago. Maybe its been lost at sea!

Hi @PDT, as per our updates your handset should now have Android 7.0. There are no other security or software upgrades available. You can follow up on the details here → https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-14-03-2017/ba-p/202941.

OK so we are all waiting, the z5 premium update, has been out for well over a month, if not more. Optus still haven''t tested and released..... Surely if Nougat has been tested by OPTUS and SONY has released this worldwide it should not take this long.

Hi @  Jack_gecko, as per our records we are still waiting for the update from Sony, details here → https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Blog/Android-Software-Updates-29-03-2017/ba-p/205168.

Any updates expected for mate 9?? I can see some bugs when Google voice enabled and using apps like whatsapp.....There is a Google voice recording error always seen and also voice over the mic degrades to hearer. This issue was fixed by some update in the international market where mate 9 operates....Does Optus know of this issue? Any plans on updates?

Hey Guys - this is the best place to check back for when updates come to hand but leave it with me and I'll see if we have any info on the Sony and M9 updates. @vnandi - have you had a chance to chat with our tech team about the issues your referring to with the error?

I don't know why people get so annoyed about this.  Believe me, Nougat is TERRIBLE compared to Marshmallow.

Hey guys my friend received the Android Nougat update on his Galaxy S6 but I'm not sure why I cannot seem to search and download the update on my own S6. 😕

It's pushed out in batches, so you'll receive notification once available 🙂

Thanks Hollie for your suggestion to contact tech support on the mate 9 issue. I did contact them and i was directed to a near by store. In the store, I was given a phone and asked to talk to a technical support guy. He listened my issue and directed me to talk to Huawei directly as optus only ensures connectivity of your phone and doesnt deal with software issues. He directed the call to Huawei and no response came for 15 mins.........So i hung up the call and spoke to the customer executive in the store. He suggested me to talk to Huawei and get the issue sorted out and was giving examples of apple iphone issues being directed to the apple customer support. However, I agreed partially as logically it meant that I do not have a direct relationship with the manufacturer and was paying optus a monthly fee for the phone & "connectivity" including the service fees. So, I chose to give the phone back to optus, when I was promised that either the issue will be resolved or a new phone will arrive from Huawei within 2 weeks.

Hey @vnandi, Hollie is not in the office at the moment and I'm sorry to hear that you had to speak to so many different departments about this. So just confirming have you spoke to someone about returning your phone? If so, what did they say about that?

Frequent Visitor vnandi
Frequent Visitor

Hi Marcel, As per my previous comments, I already submitted my phone back to optus to get it repaired or replaced. But i am not sure, how it will be resolved as he said, he will revert back in 2 weeks which is a long time. Are you saying the mate 9 replacement for a new model (company) or the same one?

New Contributor Missrippa

@Marcel any idea on whats happening with both the security patch and the nougat update for the galaxy s6edge+ i asked a few weeks ago but got no reply .

Frequent Visitor LilHoo
Frequent Visitor

@Missrippa

I believe the updates (for S6, I'm assuming it is the same schedule the Edge) have begun rolling out in batches. So hopefully more S6 and S6 Edges will be receivng the updates soon.

New Contributor Missrippa
New Contributor

@LilHoo thanks . Will that include the edge plus or just the edge? Hopefully the update will fix my phone after the last security patch - makes my battery overheat and not hold charge and my phone freezes all the time now

Frequent Visitor LilHoo
Frequent Visitor

@Missrippa

The updates should apply to the larger device as well since the update has nothing to do with how big a device is. Also, there have been a couple of users who received the Android Nougat update (for S6) complaining about battery issues (eg. draining fast) so it would be wise to research thoroughly 🙂

Frequent Visitor LilHoo
Frequent Visitor

@Missrippa

If your phone overheat quickly, it could (don't quote me on it) be from a hard problem (i.e battery) so it's worth a try to get it checked if you still have warranty.

New Contributor Missrippa
New Contributor

@LilHoo.

Thanks. Until i got the January update i didnt have any problems with my phone at all. Until that updateiy behaved perfectly.  Im going to see if the update fixes it . If not ill be changing phones at tax time . Thanks lilhoo youve been a great help

RetiredModerator Marcel
RetiredModerator

Hey @vnandi, I can understand that 2 weeks in a long time to wait, but we'll have to wait and see what the assessment report comes back with. If you're on contract, then you're covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Frequent Visitor vnandi

Hi Marcel, Yeah I am fine waiting.....I am on a contract too. Thanks for your responses.

So according to this, S7 Edge has had Android 7 availble for nearly 3 months now, yet my phone is still not showing any updates available. Is there anything I can do to get this update from you guys?
