Android Software Updates - 27/09/2018

When a new Android Operating System update is announced by Google there are a few steps that take place before it becomes ready for your device. The manufacturer receives the update and customises the software for the device and mobile carriers in each country. Once this is completed they’ll send the update to the carriers for testing.

For more info on this process check out our page:

Android Device Updates - What's The Process?

The below table provides information on the latest Android updates we’ve received for testing and approval as of the 27/09/2018. If no information is listed, it means we haven't received the build or any new details from the manufacturer.

When a version is marked as completed it means testing has been finished on our end and approved.  Each manufacturer has a process for releasing updates to devices and once we approve the update, it’s sent back to the manufacturer to be released through their standard update processes. Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.

We'll update the blog again on the 02/10/18

Pleased to see Mate 10 Pro testing complete.

Now I'll be clicking "check for updates" waiting for Huawei rather than refreshing this page.

Really hoping this fixed Android Auto and the random Bluetooth behaviour I've been experiencing.

Will be good to see an update for the Mate 10 pro, though I still wish I'd bought a different phone. So many apps don't work properly on this device from what I've told it's because it aggressively closes apps in the background. I have the battery saving feature off for the apps I need to work but they still don't work. Google keep for one, I set it to give me reminders when I get to a certain place and it only worked twice then stopped working all together. A whole heap of bugs though with this phone. I may be able to switch to a new phone soon (a handmedown) but wish I could just return the phone and get a better one. I've only had it 2 months.

Yet another fortnightly blog from Optus where they haven't updated that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are actually on 8.

Even then, they are quite behind on updates for 8.

So if the mate 10 pro testing is now complete when will i be able to update my phone? Mid to late september??? It's almost october! Come on guys

@Teddancingthe battery management on the Mate 10 Pro is quite aggressive, preventing applications from performing certain operations when the management for that application is set to auto. This is not a bad thing to apply in general, and all it takes is a little bit of tweaking on your side to get your desired settings.

Consider the alternative with all applications having free reign on your phone, bombarding you all the time and burning through your battery needlessly.

So, to resolve your issue with Keep for example you need to specifically adjust the battery setting for that application. Go to settings, Apps & notifications, Apps, Keep notes, and select the battery option. Leave the power-intensive prompt on; you want the battery use to be monitored. Go into the Launch menu and turn off Manage automatically, then adjust the settings under Manage Manually. I set Auto-launch, Secondary launch, and Run in background to on and tested the notification by location on my walk home from work and it notified me when I got within 50 metres of my house. I then set it back to Manage automatically and backtracked a short distance, created a new note with a location setting of home and proceeded to walk back in the direction of my house. No notification was received.

That's the bulk of the work done. Now go back to settings and select the Battery option. Make sure that Power and Ultra power saving modes are off and then go to the Launch menu. Make sure that Keep notes is still showing that it's set to Manage manually. Don't run the optimiser because that'll reset those settings (it won't do it automatically, it just suggests to do it) and you should be fine from there. Adjust on a per application basis via the method above and you'll find a lot of the issues you're having (feel free to specify exactly what issues you're having and I'll help you) will likely clear up.

@bigblue As I said in my original comment I have already tried all that. I can get it to temporarily start working again by clearing the app data but it only works again for a short time. And yes I know after wiping app data I need to redo the battery settings... I have an iPhone 7 Plus on its way to me at the moment. I'm done with this phone. I'm selling it and paying out my contract.

Are you referring to 8.0 @Tomchn

@Tris  yes 8.0 with face unlock and GPU turbo.  I have 8.0 but doesn't have face unlock. Why?

The current build for Huawei Mate 10 pro for optus is 8.0.0.134... this refers the the EMUI version not the android version. It's still android 8.0. The update that should be coming soon will be 8.0.0.137 and will include face unlock etc... In Europe they're up to version 8.0.0.150 so Optus are really not doing well with this device.

@Teddancing I know right. I just realise optus doing testing for several month on their for whatever reason.

@Tomchn, did you get the phone directly from Optus? That should be part of the latest update we have as far as I'm aware.

@Tris   mine directly from optus. I still don't have face unlock and GPU turbo  And there no new update available for me @

The testing with optus was only finished a few days ago, if you read the text above in this blog is says this. 'Generally, updates are rolled out progressively, for example the manufacturers might make the update available for a small number of users (i.e. 5%) initially; then if no unforeseen problems pop up, it’ll gradually be made available to more and more users over the following weeks.'

Thank you for confirming @Tomchn, it may be as @Teddancing has mentioned, in which case the updates to your device specifically shouldn't be too far off. Sorry about that

I am having a Mate 10 pro with Optus, this update testing has been completed since 27 Sep 2018. I am yet to received any update from Optus since build c34 (Security update in May). I am getting sick of slow update from Optus. It is time to leave a provider that is so lag. 😞
